Oh. My. God.  You would all be so proud of me!

Today one of my girlfriends had a housewarming BBQ.  She was so thrilled, and busy and stressed out all at once. Her friends, co-workers, in-laws and her own family were all coming to see her new home. I was helping her in the kitchen to get ready for the party to begin.  It was the first time she's seen me since I had surgery and she said she could see the difference. :)

Then as we were slicing and dicing away in the kitchen she told me about all the dishes everyone was bringing...hot links, HOMEMADE potato salad, puerto rican rice, corn bread, greens, and then she pointed to large box sitting up on top of the fridge. "See that box? There's fried chicken in there."

I felt like I was in a horror movie when I saw the fried chicken. I had been craving it since I had surgery.

So the time came to eat.  I ate a grilled hot dog (I finished half of it), a tablespoon of the potato salad, a tablespoon of greens and rice too....and a small piece of fried chicken.

You know what??  The chicken wasn't all that.  I picked off a piece and it was cold and kind of mushy. I ended up tossing it.  Then the salsa band showed up and I enjoyed the music more than the food.

I think I might have conquered the fried chicken.  *fingers crossed*

Monica,  Way to go! I think you may find that foods you think will taste wonderful, really don't. Since surgery, if I eat something and it doesn't taste "better than sex feels" then I spit it out. I don't get to eat very much so I figure why waste it on food that isn't heavenly.  I think you did an awesome job. Congratulations!!! Lauren

awwww thanks!!  Did you get a new hairdo too??
That puerto rican rice was good, I had about two bites of it...and choose it over the cornbread.  I had to choose wisely. I skipped all the store bought looking stuff.
The music however, was awesome!!

...but there was a jumper for the kids, elotes, home made salsa and only half the folks spoke English!!!  All we needed were mariachis!!!
(there was carne asada, don't think I wasn't tempted...it's too hard for me to digest still!)

That's AWESOME, Monica! We (I know we all are) are all extremely proud of you. Isn't it amazing when we are at big events, and we don't feel like we HAVE to eat it all now. I'm impressed, and you're doing amazingly.

Hi Monica,  Yes I am proud of you, especially with all that YUMMY FOOD.  You did great.  Here's to conquering the fried chicken.    Dancing to salsa music is better any day over eating fried chicken.  It sounds like you had a lot of fun.
