Topic: RE: Insurance drama - need some advice
Hey -
I called my surgeon - he's based out of SF and has surgery in SF and San Jose.
He does DS, accepts anthem, but does not accept Medi-Cal.
I spoke to the woman who runs his office, and she said it depends which one is 'dominant' - if that's Anthem, then you may be in a good position. She said if you were able to scan/photocopy the front and back of your insurance card, she could figure it out for you.
Her name is Amy Mirandoli, and she can be reached at (415) 820-5939
I hope this might help! (If they do take it, he's a really terrific surgeon!)

Someof his patients are active on the DS forum. If you start a thread addressed to them there, I bet someone would have his number for you.

Topic: RE: ANY SUPPORT GROUPS IN OAKLAND BAY AREA
I lead the group that meets at the San Leandro Hospital so I post to provide a bit more info. Our name is East Bay Bariatric and have been meeting monthly for over 10 years. We're an independent peer support group meaning all surgery types are welcome and it doesn't matter where you had your surgery or which insurance you have. It's just us patients. We're free and open to the public. No need to rsvp.
Since you asked about "more than one year out," I strongly encourage you to attend our General Session meeting that runs from 2-3:30 p.m. If you'd like to come and give support to those going through the pre-op and first year stuff, join us for the Pre-op/Newbie Q&A session that runs from 1:15-1:45 p.m.
In the general session we often speak about topics relating to people further out such as feeling vulnerable, relationship changes, new exercise ideas, dealing with holidays, feeling stuck or in a rut, you name it.
Visit our OH group page or our website (www.eastbaybariatric.org) for more info.

Topic: RE: Dr. Crookes
Last I heard, he did. Best to give his office a call for up to date info. He has an excellent reputation as a surgeon and his patients love him. Only issue with him is that you have to convince him that you really know what you would be getting into with the DS, but once you get him on board, you would be in excellent hands.

Anyone know if Dr. Crookes still takes Medi-cal? I read on a post that he did a few years ago, just wondering if he still does and if anyone has gone through him? Thanks!
