I am assuming you have Kaiser. If so, you can fight to have the 10% weight loss requirement dropped. The DMHC will support you becuase there is no scientific evidence that losing 10% of your body weight pre-op leads to a better outcome than just doing the surgery without losing that much weight.
If you don't have Kaiser and this requirement is coming from your surgeon, find a better one!

So what happened? What's your story?
What surgery did you have, and what habits led you to gain the weight back?

Topic: Hello
After stalking the Obesity Help forum for quite a few months now, I thought that it was time to register. I had surgery on 11/1/11 @ Alta Bates Summit. At 13 days out, thankfully I'm doing well. Yesterday I had a terrible 8 hour stint of naseua, but I've been ok today. Just really can't wait to get out of this liquid phase of the post-op diet. Since surgery my taste buds have changed, and everything that I once liked (even after surgery) has begun to gross me the heck out.
One question that I have is that one of my incisions is closing but if i try to reach for something I feel pulling from that incision area. Not sure if it's the incision or the stitches that closed the muscle wall. If anyone has experienced this sort of thing please advise, and please advise when this awarkward pulling feeling will be over.
I look forward to learning from other post-ops, and enjoying this journey. I hope that I posted my introduction in the right forum.

Topic: RE: Denied!
I would contact Obesity Law or some other group and figure out how to file an appeal. That sort of denial should be very easy to appeal as it's basically them not follow the guidelines of the NIH and probably not even their own guidelines!
If you can find their requirements online somewhere or have them send their bariatric policy to you, it should help.
