Topic: RE: support group nightmare????
I've been told by people who go to more than one that the San Jose group is the best. Part of it is that we have a lot of regulars, I think, so there is less focus on any one person and lots of questions get asked which can make them quite lively at times -- in a good way!
But which support group you get the most from with is a personal thing. I'm not trying to say the OP has to love the Sac group. I am just mystified as to how someone criticizing Kaiser was a 'nightmare'.
After all, when I had Kaiser, it seems like all I had to do was say "Kaiser" and people would start *****ing to me about them. It's like criticizing Kaiser is a national pasttime and I definitely got used to it!

I think i know which group you attended.
But i have attended th ame Dr groups in San Jose and didn't get that vibe there, he knows he's not my surgeon. I had mine in Kaiser SF. I found the group by looking on line for something closeby

Topic: RE: California post op reconstructive so called plastics procedures denied.-a remedy.
For much needed clarification for those interested, I'm adding in a posting by the aforementioned esteemed Attorney, D. Cox, from the main forum in reply to mine.
Her appreciated elucidation in her reply to mine reads as follows:
" To follow up and elaborate on what Rock said - if
* you have EVER applied for and been denied coverage for reconstructive surgery to remove excess skin post-bariatric surgery
* by an insurance company in CA (especially Kaiser or other HMOs, but also a fully-funded PPO or POS plan),
* since July 1999,
* whether or not you ever followed up with an appeal,
* whether or not you ever self-paid for reconstructive surgery, and
* whether or not your are still currently insured by that insurance company,
this law firm may be able to help you get reimbursement for what should have been covered if your claim was improperly denied - especially if it was for lack of medical necessity.
If you are interested in this, send your email addy to Rock. This will not only have to potential to help you, it could help others get access to coverage that is mandated by CA law more easily as well."
I trust it will prove helpful to interested parties.

Well thanks for your information! Very helpful and informative. I agree it's important for whoever is leading the group to be an active facilitator, to keep things moving, and prevent "time hogs".
Thanks a lot for your advice, I take it to heart!

just seems they never stay focused about getting healthy or staying informative...drifting from issue to issue does not happened in the hour we meet.. I know the group can't cover everything but cry baby's run a muck and that its a time killer...time after time real issues like dumping or hernias and ulcers...or what something stuck feels like and another thing was per op situations...the best thing Happened was when the lady who runs this site E-mail me about what to expect before - during - and after the operation!
Those I never got answered in any group because of time...
I am 5 weeks out and got more info from here than any where else!!
If you do this just stay in control and keep the group focused and deal with the "woman who look pregnant" and is not and wants to know why with out asking her Doctor (and eats Chinese chicken salad during group) after group or give her 5 min max to vent and move on...
That was the worst and every meeting seems to go like that and I was 1week per op and had questions that never even got discussed..The meeting before had like 60 people in it and was to be a nutrition class with out notice!!
