Hi there, Megan!!  You will be amazed how much better you will feel after you get your band.  I had RNY but I've heard of many who've had great success with their band.  I'm wishing the same for you.
I just wanted to say HELLO right back and wish you lots of luck and we will welcome you to the loser's bench.  Keep posting and update us on your news.
Wishing you the best!
Pat

Topic: RE: DR. Gerald Kirshenbaum
Yes, I can imagine he's pretty busy.  I did have my phone appointment with him and that went well. He didn't seem to be in any hurry, which is unusual for a doctor. He did talk about the problems I might have after surgery. He explained dumping syndrome, and that it doesn't apply to the band.

I have a couple friends who have been through lapband surgery with two different doctors here. As there are endless places on the net to find info and an overwhelming amount of it, I like having the live folks as well. Neither of them have seen the nutritionist since the required appointment, but you can call if you have questions. I am waiting for my appointment yet. I am very happy the pre-op diet isn't all liquid protein shakes.

I am glad your surgery went well. Hopefully your bad month is just a memory.

Topic: Hello! Introductions and all that. . .
Hello!

I am just starting on the steps to having WLS - Realize Lap Band.

My name is Megan and I will be 40 in August and after researching for about 2 years, I have decided to press forth with getting banded.

My docs are all on board and I have a seminar I am attending 21 May; I am excited about going.

I have gotten all the paperwork completed from the surgeon I want to perform the surgery (Through Rose Hospital) and will be making my consult appts tomorrow!

I called my insurance company, no exclusions, just have the dr. use the right codes (CPB? CP something!) for the approval and wala! NO SWEAT!

I have researched WLS for the past 2 years and now, that I am really huge with an EXTREMELY high BMI, now is the time.

Thing is,  I am really overweight but went through gall bladder surgery in Feb 09  without issues.  My weight, however, is making me miserable, joints wise.

Now is the time and I am really excited to be on this track!

Just wanted to say HELLO to everyone!

Cheers,
Megan

Topic: Hi. Just wanted to introduce my new support group on OH
Hi. I am here in Colorado. I recently started a support group here on oH, and would like to invite anyone interested to join me there. I will also be starting a local live support group in the Pueblo, Colorado area. The estimated launch date for that live group is early October. This support group will be free of charge, and open to any / all wls patients and thier supporters.

I am a Certified bariatric support group leader, a certified life coach, specializing in obesity and wls, I am a certified back on track facilitator, and an LPN. I am also a WLS patient. I had Laproscopic RNY July 21st, 2008. I am almost 9 months out and down by 89 lbs so far.

Yes Penrose St. Francis does accept medicare. The surgical team is excellent. They are a center for excellence. I had my RNY with Dr. Fedorak, and it went perfectly! They are located in Colorado Springs. The office phone number is 719-635-2501.

When using medicare, you must go through 6 months of medically supervised weight loss program. (overseen by your MD). Once the 6 months is completed, then you are eligable to have the wls pd for by medicare, providing you meet the guidlines...bmi, co-morbidities, ect) You will have a series of appointments once you are accepted as a patient by them. It generally takes about 2 to 4 months to have your surgery once you start the process with the surgeons office.

The name of the surgical team / center is Colorado Springs Surgical Associates.

Hi all,
I just wanted to give an update. I wrote on Monday to please if you use prayer to please pray for my husband as he was very very sick. He had a blood clot and then came down with a staff infection in his right leg. Beginning of the week they were literally fighting for his life, then it got to fighting to keep his leg...today he was able to come home with both his leg and health in tact! I can not tell you how truely blessed I feel for all you wonderful people saying a quick prayer for somebody you don't even know. God bless and praise the Lord! Lisa

Topic: Stay away from this!
Monster Energy in Chai HaiBlame it on the husband. He brought me the first can! Then he told me where he found it, then as fate would have it, we ended up moving within blocks of another location that sold it. I love this stuff. It is so very bad for me too with 14 grms of carbs, 13 grms of sugar, 1.5 grms of fat (1 grm is saturated), 90 calories, and only 4 grms of protein, and that is per serving! There are 2 servings per 15 fl oz can. I don't dump on this, maybe it would be better if I did. It is wasted calories. Sure, it has some added vitamins; calcium 152 mg, Vit A 80 IU, Vit C 30 mg, Vit D 30 IU, Potassium 125 mg, Vit B2 1.7 mg, Vit B3 20 mg, Vit B6 2 mg, and Phos 100mg. I don't think there are enough of the however to justify the sugar and the carbs however. Luckily or unluckily (depending on how you choose to look at it), the store nearest me has stopped carrying it. I am so addicted to the stuff that I actually e-mailed the folks at Monster to find out if it had been discontinued. They replied that it hasn't, just that it is only available in limited markets. Husband bless his well meaning heart, found a service station that happens to be one of those "limited markets". My advice if you see this...stay away..don't try it.. it tastes like sweet cream (even though it is made with reduced fat milk) and goes down super smooth so it is just too easy to drink the whole can (26 grms of sugar)in one sitting! Just because I don't dump on it, (remember I am almost 3 years post op) doesn't mean you won't!

Hi Alexis,
Thanks so much. We definitely do need to catch up. He is doing much much better. On Monday when this all went down they were definitely fighting to save his life, then it got to saving his leg and by the grace of God he is doing well. They are talking of releasing him tomorrow (Fri.) and so he's sure hoping that is what happens. It ended up he had a blood clot and then got a staff infection which the staff is what they have really been battling with but like I said, he is doing much better. Very worn out and getting grouchier with every day that he is in there. So I know that the grouchiness means the old Wes is coming back! :) Anyway, when things do settle down we'll all get together and do something. That would be great. Thanks to all for all the thoughts and prayers! Lisa

Lisa,

If you need anything...please call me.  I know that Wes in a good hospital and getting the best care.  Take care of yourself also.  When all is a little calmer, we need to catch up.  I am not sure what comfort this is, but I believe that we are not given more than we can handle...Wes is strong and so are you...he will get through this.

My thoughts are with you......
