I am getting nervous I am 25lbs below my goal weight and I’m trying to lose as much as I can. But a part of me is saying I couldn’t because I mite not have my surgery if I am any smaller. Can someone tell me if I am doing the right thing by losing more weight or  should i try to maintain for now?

Hi there,

I do know the more weight you lose before surgery the better. You might want to consult your Dr. to see if he/she wants you to stop losing in order to keep the approval for the surgery. Best of luck to you.

No worries.  I believe the insurance cut off for WLS is a BMI of 40.  Check with your insurance company for their cut off to be sure.

The more you lose now the less fatty your liver will be in surgery, which makes it much easier for the surgeon t lift your liver to get at the parts he needs to.

Congratulations on your awesome loss!  Keep up the good work!

With a BMI of 50, I don't know why you are worried about them not doing surgery.  Also I would think the more weight you lose the easier surgery will be for the doctor.  If you are really concerned then call the doc.  That is the best suggestion anyone can give you at this point.

Good luck, Diane

Ericia, continue doing what you are doing! It will help you recover fast after your surgery and make it easier on your surgeon, because you will have less of a fatty liver.
Good luck!!

I also had Kaiser and lost more than the 10%. It just made it easier for the Dr. and She was glad that I had lost more than required.  Good luck to you.  :)
