Thinking of Cindy's post... There was a big stink several months back about McDonalds not revealing that their fries contained milk - a problem for the lactose-intolerant folks.  Wondering if they ever changed that?

Most fast food places have a special coating on their fries to make them crispy...and to keep them crispy for more then 10 minutes while they sit under a heat lap waiting to be served.  This is the reason, you cannot make mcdonalds fries at home.  If anyone is interested in a very interesting movie....watch SUPER SIZE ME....while I do eat mcdonalds fries regularly...if you watch the special features, they show a "fries" experiment where spulock puts McD's fries and some Diner fries in a glass jar for several weeks to see what happens....the McD's fries never start to rot...they look exactly the same several months after the experiement started, while the diner fries get moldy and rot.  Scott

Oh ,believe me they do it!  I worked in the cooking / food service industry and can tell you they even injected beef broth into them and got sued by a community of vegans (religous reasons) after swearing there were no animal products in the fries!

They coat them with sugar too. That's how they get the golden brown color. Sharee

I don't know about mlik, but I remember some time back reading how McD's (and I think BK) sprays them with a sugar-water solution - that's how they get that "golden brown".   &8- O)  (I also heard that McD's manages to put sugar, in one form or another, in almost all their food items, other than the sugar-free drinks!)
