Question from someone looking into DS who has weighed over 400

Hi.I recently just found out about the D.S. and I'm currently trying to read everything I can about it to figure out if it's for me.I currently weigh in the 340s but at my heaviest I hit 414..for the past decade or so my weight has mostly fluctuated between the 370s and the 390s.Are there people who have hit over 400 like me who have managed to actually make it to under 200 with the d.s. and stay there? I'm not unrealistic,I realize that having been so morbidly obese for so long and having the lousy genetics and metabolism I do that it is unlikely that I will ever be "slim" but is it possible for people my size to get to chubby(say between 170 and 190) and stay there? Thanks!

Most DEFINITELY possible with the DS!!!  It's even possible to lose that low with the RNY, I just don't think it's as easy long term with the RNY.  (I'm sure plenty will disagree with this opinion).  There will be plenty of DS peeps along soon to tell you that they not only got to 170-190, some even go much lower!!  I think most of us can share in your lousy genetics and metabolism issues.  My metabolism SHOCKS me daily after my DS!!

good luck in your research, and welcome to the DS board!!!

I have seen several people go from 400+ pounds down to a normal size. One of the most inspiring stories I remember is Cindy. Her name on here is biggeekgirl

I hope she doesn’t mind me posting this link but her pictures were so inspiring that I bookmarked the link: http://www.picturetrail.com/sfx/album/view/8138761

She went from 400lbs to a size 6!!

That was so inspiring. I love that slideshow. These are the things that make me feel like I can do it!

Of course I don't mind!   I should have read the replies before I posted.....  I'm too quick on the draw!

I know there were plenty who inspired me in my journey and I am happy to give back to others!

My goal :  To lose the baby weight once my little guy is born !

BTW - you're doing awesome, Jenn!  Look at you !!!!!!!!!!!!!  Amazing.

Wow, so inspiring for me.  I just can't even imagine being that small.  I so want this for myself it's unreal...I don't think I've wanted anything as much as I want this surgery.

Thanks for sharing your pics and story.  Maybe in a couple of years I'll be able to do the same thing!

Welcome!  Please stick around here, and READ READ READ!!!  Read the threads, but also people's profiles.  Sorry, I haven't blogged my experience, but many people have.  I have posted pictures, and you can probably relate to some of my WOWs.

At your current weight, you are right about what I went into surgery weighing.  I lost 31# (or about, I can't remember now!) on my pre-op diet, so my highest  *known*  weight was 370#.  I don't think I was ever much heavier than that, but who knows?

I've lost 170#, and don't think that a 200# loss is unattainable at all.  I was even dreading my monthly weight check yesterday, given the fact that I packed a lot of food in during the holidays (a lot more sugar & carbs than I usually have -- by far) and no exercise.  I really thought I was going to have my first monthly weight gain -- nope, lost 8+ pounds!  It was the first time I have been under 200# in over 20 years (but don't tell anyone, I haven't taken the time to post my good news!).

We are all so different, and you never know where you will end up.  I have seen our own Haley (click on the link of her name for profile) lose over 200#, and she is a tiny little thing (not in height though, and yes, I am jealous!).  Who knew such delicate bone structure existed under her pre-op body?  I've seen a lot of people do remarkably well, and quickly!  From what I have seen, it really isn't that unusual to get at least to an 'overweight' BMI range, and I've seen a whole lot of 'normals' from some people that started with a BMI of over 60.

~ I am the proud wife of a Guatemalan, but most people call me Kimberley
Highest Known Weight  =  370#  /  59.7 bmi  @  5'6"

Current Weight  =  168#  /  26.4 bmi  :  fluctuates 5# either way  @  5'7"  /  more than 90% EWL
Normal BMI (24.9)  =  159#:  would have to compromise my muscle mass to get here without plastics, so this is not a goal.
