Sometimes DS's aren't the 'platinum standard'

 Sometimes "platinum" isn't good enough. I once told a poker buddy of mine that poker was a lot like life: Sometimes you can do absolutely everything right and still lose. It sucks when it happens, and it's absolutely devastating when you're a mother and it's happening to one of your babies. I'm so sorry that she's having to go through this. It is incredibly unfair. From one mother to another, my heart goes out to you.

 I am so sorry Lynn is still having problems.  I hadn't heard much of anything since she had her revision and I had assumed she was doing better.  I'll be thinking about her.

And what you said about the DS is true.  It's also true of the RNY, band, and almost any medical procedure we could discuss.  Some people tolerate being rerouted well and every now and then, someone doesn't tolerate it at all.  I've also known one RNY person who had multiple ongoing issues like this.  

I hope they find the answer for Lynn.  She is an extraordinary young woman.

Mary, I am so sorry to hear of this ongoing issue with Lynn. She sounds amazing.

I have some survivor's guilt, too. That's probably why I look around every corner, looking for trouble with my DS, from obstructions to deficiencies. I know some people are foolish about their WLS aftercare, and some are just plain unlucky. Lynn has been extraordinarily compliant and yet still, unlucky.  It could have happened to any of us. I know that and feel some guilt. If each of us could take on a day or two of her life, to unburden her some, I'm sure most of us would. I would.

I hope she is able to resolve these issues and I applaud her strength and determination.

Well, crap.

I think about Lynn occasionally.  I had hoped she would be doing better since her revision.  How upsetting.  Was there ANY improvement at all?  Poor thing :(  I know she has tried so hard.

Mary - thank you so much for posting. I am so glad you were able to vent, share, express your frustrations enough to get the support you need and to let us know what is going on with Lynn Bee. I am so sorry she is still having problems and that they are sort of shrugging their shoulders now about what to do next. What a crappy situation to be in when your drs don't even really know what to try or what should work.

There are critters in motion here in MN and I wish you peace and strength as you support her through this (probably) long and (certainly) stressful struggle.

Yanno Mary, I hadn't heard anything since the revision...I had so hoped that Lynn was doing better.  This breaks my heart.  I haven't had a picture perfect recovery and post op DS, but not certainly in the position Lynn has been in.  Three years has worked out a lot of kinks, I still have reflux and I do still continue to have episodes where I have partial obstructions that right themselves before surgery is needed, so I count myself fortunate.  I will say that being a person that is forced to regulate their diet and still has issues that it's beyond frustrating some days.  I really do hear your frustration and I'm feeling it right along side you.  Please send Lynn my best.  This simply sucks.  No way around it.

 Mary, I'm so sorry to hear about Lynn.  I have to agree with Jenna about FMLA.  Legally, they won't be able to fire her for medical issues.  But I understand how the competitiveness affects promotions and if she's seen as someone who needs alot of time off, she might be bypassed for something.

I'm sorry about your niece's medical problems! 

I hope it will help a little to know that, based on what you've said here, she should certainly qualify for FMLA and that her doctor should fill out the forms for her and that will keep her from getting in trouble at work and she should not be in any danger of losing her job.  Best of luck to her!
