Pondering why the RNY is considered the "Gold Standard"?
I'm posting this here cause I don't want to start a MB flame war, but seriously, as I experience this awesome DS life, I wonder ... what or whom proclaimed the RNY to be the 'gold standard' of WLS? Seriously, it's like a joke. DS and even VSG are better surgeries than the RNY. Why are insurance companies so RNY happy?

My doctor thinks people aren't compliant enough with the post-DS nutrition requirements and that dumping is good incentive to eat right.

I used to dump when I had my RNY and to be honest it wasn't much of a deterrent for me to stop eating whatever made me dump. There are two exceptions to that though. Dumping on ice cream was 50/50. Sometimes I did and sometimes I didn't, that is until I had a particularly bad dumping episode. After that I just decided that ice cream wasn't;t worth it. The second thing I dumped and had a really horrible experience with was malt. Anything malted. Malted drinks, malted milk, malted milk balls, that sort of thing. I would get these stomach gas pains that were so bad I swear one time I almost went to the hospital. Outside of those items dumping was more like 45 minutes of inconvenience and then it was over, I'd get diarrhea and I'd go on eating whatever.
For me, the worst part about my RNY was having reactive hypoglycemia. I had passed out several times.
