Alcohol question
So New Years is coming up, and although I only drink about twice a year, this is one of those times. I don't want to get ****faced or anything like that, but I'd like a drink or two. I'm 5 mths out now. How will alcohol affect me? Will a tiny bit work alot faster than it used to? Will it give me horrible stomach pains? I just want to be prepared. Is there a specific kind of liquor that's easier on the stomach than others?
Thanks!
Thanks!
most dr's tell you not to drink at all during the rapid weight loss phase because rapid weight loss is VERY tough on the liver and the last thing you want to do when your is liver is being stressed is put alcohol in your body. if you do decide to drink, be very careful. it is easier to overdo it with our altered metabolism. if it were me, i wouldnt do it.
It is not a good idea to try out alcohol for the first time in a public place. It isn't a good idea to drink during your weight loss phase either, for your poor livers sake. But if you must drink you might want to see how it effects you when you are safe in your own home first. Everyone seems to be effected differently.
I have to admit that I don't "get" the need to have a drink just because it is a holiday. I've been to plenty of holiday parties and enjoyed them just fine without a drink.

I'm going to a Christmas party on Friday and was wondering about a few sips, myself. I might be brave (but trust me I won't over do it).

Please be very careful if you are going to drink this close out from surgery- especially in public. I drank for the first time 7 months after surgery (on Halloween). I had 2-3 glasses of wine in probably 2 hours I believe. I went from completely sober to passed out on the ground in a bar within probably 30 seconds. It was really scary, and something you want to avoid if at all possible...

You were switched on my brithday? I don't think pain is the issue. It's the liver load and how fast you metabolize.
Somehow I doubt having a sip or two of Champagne on New Year's is going to cause you melt Elphaba style.
Use some common sense. Don't drink more than 1/2-1 serving. Be sure to make that serving last the whole night. And have a good time with friends, family, and other loved ones ringing in the New Year!!

I have had 2 "drinks" since surgery. One was about 1/2 a watermelon margarita at the beach- I must have drank it too quickly or something- it knockered me like no other- I was flushed and drunk in mere seconds, then sober just as quick. Weird. I had a small glass of white wine the other night at DH's B-Day celebration- I sipped on it all night (over about 3 hours) and had it with food and had no issues, never even got "buzzed" but I didn't want to either.
I would say, a few sips, maybe a full glass would be just fine. Just go slow, don't set out with a plan to get blasted or anything. Just have your one drink, enjoy it and celebrate that way.
Oh, and yes- a little will go a LONG way these days. And it will hit hard, fast and heavy- so go SLOW. If you knock it back, you could knock yourself straight out. Taking shots shouldn't even be a consideration I would say...

I AM NOT RECOMMENDING THIS. HOWEVER---
Back when I had my DS, no one was really talking about alcohol. when I was 2.5 months post-op, my brother got married and threw a HUGE reception. I drank several margaritas, and---they had pretty much the same effect on me as they would have, pre-op. Except---the next AM, I was bright-eyed and bushy-tailed at 7 AM, while everyone else was holding their heads and groaning.
NOW, I know that wasn't a smart thing to do---but no one had told me that, I I really don't think it had any adverse effect on me whatsoever. Moral of the story: you're an adult, it's up to you to decide.
