Thank You...... Slurpee FREE (3 Weeks)

About a month ago I posted a question on what would happen when I ate certain foods if I were to get the DS surgery.  I was eating alot of cheese popcorn, hunter sausages, and worst of all - 7-11 Slurpees.  I successfully found a way around my VSG surgery.   Many of you were so wonderful in coming straight out and putting me in my place.  It was needed - I was out of control.

I want to personally thank you guys for putting me in my place and making me truly think about all that I was doing to my body and that changes needed to happen or else I would never complete my journey I started in Feb 2009.

What triggered me to ask you guys this was I had a 1 in*****isional hernia that desperately needed fixing and my surgeon suggested I get the DS while he was in there fixing my hernia.  Well, after listening to you guys I realized I needed to change more than just my plumbing.  I needed to change my behaviors.   I decided against the DS and opted to just get the hernia repaired with mesh. WOW - worst pain I ever felt - could barely walk, I tell ya I certainly take my abs for granted.  My hernia repair was done on Nov 17.  Here comes the good part.

As of Nov 16 I eliminated from my diet the following - slurpees, cheese popcorn, hunter sausages, and anything other CRAP that you can buy from 7-11.  I pulled out my nutrition packet I shoved under some papers and reread it.

As of today, I am "slurpee free"  - my biggest addiction !!  I refuse to even go into a 7-11.  I am feeling better and loosing weight.  I am following all the rules I should have followed back in the day.    As they say in AA - I am 21 days sober.  :)

Again, thank you for your very honest input.  :)

Good for you! Perhaps once you have a better chunk of sober time under your belt, you can revisit the idea of the DS, if it's still needed.

I am going to do the best I can NOT to have another weight loss surgery.  If I cant change my behaviors within the VSG guidelines - then I highly doubt I will successful in others.  Its my mind that needs fixing - not my body.... you guys know what I mean....  :)

There are moments I feel I want one - I write to my close friends on FB - say I am having a hard time and they give me support and I let go of the need.  I am sure I will have many of those days - but 3 weeks, why would I go and mess up the hard work I already achieved.  I wont give up.

Traute, congratulations and good for you. I remember your previous post, and I know it must have been difficult to process that feedback and make those changes.

I really admire you for being able to do so and wish you continued success. Thank you for coming back and letting us know how you're doing.

I didnt remember everyone's names and what each of you said but I do remember your picture.  :)  It was very hard.  I even went into my surgeon and said - hey I posted a question and these people online gave it to me good.  I am proud of the fact I didnt deny my actions, I took responsibility for them, learned from my mistakes (with all of your help) and changed my behaviors.  I feel as if this is my second chance and I WILL do it right this time  :)

I felt I needed to come back and tell you how I was doing since you all played such a huge role in helping me "GET IT".   I am forever grateful to all of you.

Congratulations on being "slurpee free" for the past several weeks.

I know the comments made here in response to your post were hard to read, but thank you for the status update.  Most were brutally honest, but you showed courage by changing your pattern and intelligence by understanding the concerns.  (rather than running away all butthurt, thinking that the DSers are all meanies)

I'm sure with your renewed commitment and compliance to the VSG rules, you will have some success with losing weight.

Best of luck to you.

Just remember, sometimes the problem is you. But sometimes it isn't.
A lot of folks here have been on every kind of diet. The VSG is another diet. Keep in mind that a very low calorie diet CAN lead to a seriously low metabolism. If you find you're barely maintaining your weight or you're gaining and you can honestly say you are doing mostly the right things (none of us do all of the right things all of the time), then it might be time to look into the malabsorption and the metabolism boost the DS can give you. Being addicted to food doesn't mean your body isn't a problem. It just does mean that until you deal with your addiction, fixing your body won't change anything.
To everything there is a season. Good luck! And congratulations on all your hard work!!! (Feel better soon. I know how hard healing can be.)
