Why Dreamfields Pasta?

Just wondering.  One of the things I've indulged in too much the past couple of years is ramen noodles cuz it was an easy "pasta" choice for one meal.  Now I'm trying to determine my best pasta options for when I want it and have been looking at the labels:

Top Ramen  - 36.8g carbs in one 3oz package
Ronzoni - 42g per svg (2oz) - Linguini
Dreamfiels - 41g per svg (2oz) - Linguini

I hear so many people talking about Dreamfields as a great low-carb option, but I don't get it.  Am I missing something about interpreting the labels?  Please explain.

Duz, it seems like carb-wise I'd do better with the Ramen.  Although the sodium content is crazy, I don't know how much of that is the noodles and how much is the seasoning packet, because I never use the seasoning packet.

Hmm . . . note sure I quite understand the concept of the "protected" carbs, but I guess it can't hurt to try a little and see how it does me.  Thanks.

The carbs in the Dreamfields are "protected" if it is cooked & served properly.  So, out of those 41g of total carbs, only 5g per serving are absorbable.  You HAVE to follow the cooking directions exactly, do NOT overcook, do NOT mix sauce with pasta and continue cooking, NO reheating leftovers, ect, ect, ect or the "protective matrix" breaks down and the full carbs are then absorbable.  But, if you follow the directions, it is a good option for those counting carbs.  MANY DSers have gastric distress (gas, bloating DHR) from Dreamfields though, so YMMV.  I do not have issue with it, and use it once a week or so, and being Italian (and pretty much only knowing dishes that involve pasta in someway) love that I can still have a bit of pasta.

I have horrible problems with Dreamfields ~~ it and apples are the only things that have given me really painful stomach upset. I'm better off with a small amount of regular pasta. But I know that a lot of people love it and use it often.

I don't personally eat it.  Too much "magic" and I'm afraid I'd cook it wrong.  Plus, I'm single.  Leftovers are my life.

If I want noodles, I eat spaghetti squash or tofu shirataki noodles.  Shirataki are expensive though.  Definitely not a ramen replacement.  Good for once in awhile.

Honestly, pasta and rice are just not big parts of my life anymore.  I don't cook them at home and in restaurants I usually just eat a few bites and I'm done.

And double check the ramen pkg juuust in case.  Most ramen packages are 2 servings, not one.

For the other question, probably 99% of the sodium is in the packet.

**I am NOT saying that a DSer cannot or should not eat pasta and rice.  If they are important to you, you can fit them in somewhere, bu****ch the portions.  I am saying they aren't going to be a staple though.  Protein first, carbs later.  I choose to "spend" my carbs on bread, fruit, dessert, and potatoes, cause those are my favorites.

Wondering if you have tried any of the low carb noodles available, like the Shirataki or Miracle Noodles? I've never been much of a pasta eater so don't really miss eating pasta and haven't tried these low carb noodles yet but they might be worth trying.

The only food that ever made me barf was Dreamfields.  I don't eat pasta and haven't in a very very long time.  But I think the Dreamfields is processed in some way that makes the actual carbs you absorb much less (net carbs) than other pasta.
