Maybe I should try more prebiotic if the fiber doesn't work or should I try more prebiotic first because eating yogurt is helping and I have been eating a big piece of extra sharp cheese before I go to bed seem to help more????

I just started ieating yogurt and it helped a little that's why I said about trying more fiber in the form of powder or capsule to see if that help.

Also you could try giving up dairy foods to see if it helps. I became lactose intolerant for a while after my surgery.

I am 20 years + from my Biliopancreatic diversion with a duodenal switch. The only thing that really improved the condition was by taking probiotics. Get a good quality brand with billions of cultures. Give it a try. It might help.

After RNY in 2011 , I started having bowel problems diarrhea gas stomach indigestion and I chalked it all up to the fact that it was bariatric surgery, then February 2021 started having diarrhea almost every day sometimes twice a day so I saw a GI doctor and he did a colonoscopy and discovered that I had Crohn's disease and was extremely lactose intolerant.

my treatment was prednisone for 30 days and then Humira I guess for the rest of my life. I suggest you see another doctor other than the bariatric doctor.

diarrhea is now gone and getting normal bowel movements still have indigestion and gas problems, working on that.

good luck

The main problem is while I am sleeping.

All during the day I'm OK with it. Just not while I am sleeping or trying to sleep ?. I don't get any good sleep because of it because I'm always waking up checking myself. All because at night while sleeping is when I have a lot of gas and sometimes with gas a have very very lose stool.

I had the ds 18 years ago. I'm 37. I don't work out, I don't follow any diet, I do take all my pills, I don't go out of my way to eat sugar or carbs and I eat enough protein and drink enough water. Also I would cut soda out sugar alone will give you the runs. I take imodiem on the morning which is a game changer. Also don't accept a problem as bad as the runs I suffered and even stopped working for awhile and it was not my diet it was more just following the rules we All should know. I also take everything I can to constipated me. Like beside imodiem think rice, think lots of rice in fact, think water, think imodiem, fiber can make you poop more. You might want to stop all fiber. Most people get enough fiber from food and I'm just saying I tried fiber for the same issues and I thought it helped at first but it didn't. You can message me but yea I just had stopped following the rules and the only strange thing about me is even when I was fat I never cared about sugar. Good luck. See a different doctor if he tells you stuff that isn't helping.

Individual responses to what we eat and drink sometimes seem to be a mystery. I had problems "holding my liquor" before surgery and now can rarely handle more than one drink. Others seem to be able to drink a lot both before and after surgery.

Hello,

I'm pretty sure the sleeve part is stretched out,

I actually had a 1st VSG in 2009,which was made too large.

I had the DS in 2012, they didn't touch the sleeve part.

However, I had another VSG in 2014 to make it narrower.

I have had blood tests that have recently shown that I malabsorb more (several medications taken orally show less in my blood now, plus lower nutrients/vitamins for the same amount taken in orally).

I wonder if there's something making me malabsorb alcohol also, as it does my oral meds.

It seems weird though, since, as you said, at this point, I should be absorbing more (and clearly, I have been able to eat almost normal portions of food for years),

So I'm still confused with this phenomenon of not feeling the effects of alcohol

You don't need a bariatric surgeon. Any doctor can run blood tests and recommend supplements. If you don't feel the effects of alcohols at this point, the sleeve part of your DS may have stretched out enough and given you a big enough stomach so the alcohol does not affect you as much as someone with a small sleeve or pouch. Or the original surgeon may have created a large sleeve as part of your DS. Your family doctor should be able to recommend someone who can check the size of your sleeve.
