Topic: Diabetics and healing

Hi: Diabetics may have a problem with healing if they get cut, the wound may take longer to heal. My question is, when a diabetic has WLS is that person at risk of stomach leakage, do to fact that healing is an issue with them? Some surgeons not only staple the site of surgery, but use sutures to insure there are no leaks. I'm a diabetic and this concerns me about having WLS. If anyone has information on this subject, your input will be appreciated.

I don't know your doc, but I would think that if you'd call and tell them that you have quit they will not punish you for it. Quitting is the 1st goal, I understand docs wantt you to quit before the operations to make healing faster and better. I have never heard of anybody being tested for nicotine, I do know such tests are available because the Orlando Sentinal ran an article about an EMT who got fired because he smoked in a job where he wasn't allowed to.  I would call your doc and be honest and see what he says.

Good Luck

Topic: smoking test...!!!??!????
HI all.. i am using Dr  Kfir Ben-David for my sugery - he has recently changed his requirement for stop smoking up to 3 months prior!  While I have quit - I just found out that they test two weeks prior to the surgery .. which means 3 1/2 months really - so I am trying to find out the test used so I can see if I will pass..Also some tests that I have found are showing just exposure will mess up results - which would be another problem.  PLS PLS PLS all those that have used Dr. Kfir Ben-David - pls let me know the test he uses to determine you have quit smoking so I can see if my surgery is going to end up being delayed and if I need to "stay away" from family until after..
Thanks to all

Topic: RE: Self Pay Help find Dr.
A lot of people who are self pay go out of the country. One of the names that come up often is Dr Aceves in Mexico.

Topic: RE: Approved!! Having second thoughts
Congrats on your approval!! I would say it's normal, I mean, this is HUGE!  I had my approval and was scheduled for 10/3, but then we had a change at the last minute.  I was so depressed because I was mentally ready for surgery.  I got rescheduled for January - then I got a call right before Thanksgiving and surgery was moved to 12/5.  At that time, I too had a bit of cold feet - just focus on the positive and how it will help your quality of life.  Hope this helps!!

Topic: Had a great experience with surgery at Florida Medical Center 11/30
Just wanted to post that I had surgery on 11/30 with Dr. Bayron at Florida Medical Center.  Everything was top-notch.  Very attentive staff, from pre-op to when I was on the floor post op.  All the bariatric patients rooms are private, they look like hotel rooms with wood floors, flat screen TV, a couch for my guests to visit, etc.  The surgery was great (VSG), it took less than an hour.  The surgeon (Dr. Bayron), the anesthesiologist (Dr Pappy) and the CRNA (Mirta) were great, as were the nurses on the floor.  I had no pain after the 1st day and felt I could have gone back to work on Monday (I had the surgery on a Wednesday), but I took the whole week off and haven't looked back.  When I had my staples removed after 11 days, I was 23 pounds down!!

feel free to email me in private for more info

Topic: Self Pay Help find Dr.
Hi, I recently had my RNY by Dr. Hoddinott and my sister has decided she wants WLS now too. But she wants Lap Band. Does anyone know who is a good Dr that takes self pay patients and do they accept payments?

I am doing better now less frustration. I think I got it lol. Dr. Jawad has actually partnered up with Dr. Wier. He has been awesome and his staff r wonderful. Yes I am going to go to the next support group meeting in January. The one in December was the day I got released from the hospital and I wasn't up to going. TY for responding to my post.
