Not bad at all. IF my insurance would have covered it, it would have been like $42,000 and my co-pay would have been like $38,000 or some obsurd amount. I almost dropped when I heard the numbers. However, going the self-pay route dropped ALL prices... (not sure how they figure all that other than everyone takes from the insurance and the insurance doesn't help you?) Anyway.... My final out-of-pocket was around $18,500.00 or something like that. I know we borrowed a little more than we needed to cover expenses while staying in San Francisco for the week. Hotel was included in my package. There were a couple additional bills here and there that came afterward... like the disposal fee for disposing of my stomach remains... may it rest in peace!
I know it was a lot, but I couldn't put a price on my life, so we did it. Like I said before.... there goes my new car for a few years! But, I'll gladly walk if I have to... now that I can! YAY! Never regretted it for a moment and still don't. Best investment I ever made. Just wish the insurance companies would learn and stay on the leading edge.

My Castle Hospital bill is $1950. I have to pay the psche eval which will be around $130.00 and Dr. Fowlers Surgeon Fee.  My grand total out of my pocket is $2580.  I say that is not bad, not bad at all.  I saw the grand total for the Hospital bill and it was $30K.

Aloha Gigi!

Good luck with that. I have UHA as well. I have to admit they helped pay for testing and meds, but they wouldn't cover my surgery at all unless I used one of the doctors in their network. So, I had to go the self-pay route to get the doctor and surgery that I wanted. I hope someday they'll realize how WLS can save them money (hense allowing them to make money since that is what they are all about) and start covering these procedures. Ok... I vented!

Best to you always~!

I just found out yesterday that HMSA is going to start covering Lap Band fills.  How cool is that.  Too bad I have UHA!!  I guess I need to get on the phone and start calling my insurance company and try to convince them to start covering as well.
