Topic: RE: New, looking for info on UIHC docs and others in Cedar Rapids area
Hi Brigette!  I would be very interested to hear your experience.  I was pretty determined to go with the bypass surgery originally but am now more open to learning more about the lap band, both for safety reasons and the cost (I will be private pay).

I have about 100lb to lose and am anxious to get started.  I have joined an Overeater's Anonymous group and am finding that really helpful.  I know even if I have the surgery it will be important for me to change my lifestyle and eating habits, so I'm trying to work on that now to prove to myself that I can do it and stick with it!  It would be a real shame to have surgery, lose the weight, and then regain as I know some people have.

You can e-mail me at [email protected] and we'll connect!  Congratulations on your great success so far!  I'm really glad to hear you are happy with your surgery, making such great progress, and feeling so much better!   Deb

It's funny you would post this because I was just getting on to post a message to see if anyone had any docs in the Cedar Rapids area!!

I had lapband surgery a year ago. I used a doc in Des Moines. He was a very good doc, but the post op care has been HORRENDOUS!! They promised me all this flexibility and gave me NOTHING! So I'm looking for another doc.

You can send me a message and I will send you my email and phone number. I would be glad to tell you my experience!

For me, it wasn't a matter of the surgery taking away my kids' mother(I have 2-6 and 4), but a matter of the weight taking away their mother! I don't know how overweight you are, but I WAS 200 pounds overweight. I didn't have any "comorbidies" YET. They were coming. I wasn't living, I was watching my life go by on the sidelines. I have since lost 95 pounds in the last 1 1/2 years and I have my life back! I still have a ways to go, but I'm living my life, no****ching it go by. I play with my kids, no****ch from a bench! I had lapband surgery because it was the safest of the 2 surgeries. I would do it again in a heart beat!!

Send me a message. I would love to connect with people from this area. Maybe we could set up our own support group! I feel kinda out of the loop. Another reason I'm looking for another doc.

I look forward to talking with you!

Brigette

Topic: RE: Liquid Vitamins
I haven't tried them - but I am always looking for calcium options.  I get tired of the large chalky vitamins.

I had to do the 6months,  I did mine with a dietian for Title 19.  Medicare did not cover my doctor.  But It was less than a week after the last appt that I got my approval.
Good Luck!!

Topic: RE: Dr Ver Steeg patients....
You will be fine! Just ask all the questions that you want.  If you need some extra help just talking about it helps. Dr.  has a very lovely patient that had her surgery about 5 years ago. Her name is Sue Baedke,  she will talk with you and even visit with your loved ones and answer their questions. I was at peace talking with someone that knew what it was going to be like. She answered questions I was embarassed to ask the doctor. Which is dumb because he is a very nice guy and will answer anything. Just call the office and they will know how to get in touch with Sue.

Topic: Liquid Vitamins
Just wondering if anyone has used liquid vitamins and if so, what do you see as pros and cons to them?

Topic: RE: Anyone else a Dr. Lamasters patient?
Kari~
I am from Jewell and I am LaMasters patient too.  I got my surgery on the 24th of Sept.  I had to have a totally different surgery then the lab or bypass.  But am sooooooo happy with her and the WHOLE group down there.  I have sent 2 people to her so far.  I have Lupus, Fibro, Asthma......so the other surgeries were not a option for me.  I had the vertical sleeve and that one is not offered alot.   Email me and maybe we can get together and talk.   Or anyone else in the area.
Thanks
Nicki
