Topic: RE: Anyone else a Dr. Lamasters patient?
Hi Kari!  I'm a Dr. LaMasters patient too. I first met her last week. I immediately liked her.

I first thought I wanted a lapnand. Sounds like an easier surgery, but when she told me it would be unlikely for me to meet my ultimate goal,

Then we talked about laproscopic RNY. I think I'd like to do that one.

I just know that I'm someone who needs to quick weightloss, or I get bored, discouraged, whatever...if the pounds aren't coming off as soon as I'd like.

She said its up to me, that she will do whatever I decide. I have COPD and wondered about that and being anesthized, but didn't seem too worried.

I have to do a 6 month supervised diet, so I do have time to think about it.

It is nice to find others goinng thru the same thing.

We can talk whenever you'd like too

Hey guys!  I will be having the Laparoscopic RNY with Dr. Lamasters when I finally get through insurance requirements.  I'm just looking for other people to talk with who are also her patients.  I think it's always great to find others going through the same thing and with the same surgeon!

Stephanie,

If you are having concerns you should call your doctor's office.
Weight gain can be very normal.  While you are in the hospital they give you a lot of IV fluids and you will dump that all off in the first couple of weeks and can get dehydrated by not taking in enough fluids.  As you start to rehydrate your weight can go up.
Tuna and chicken (especially chicken) can be very difficult for RNY patients to eat.  Many can't ever eat chicken!!  Try a different protein and see how it goes.

Hi Stephanie,
Call the office where surgery done through, I think you are right on track even though you have had a gain. Don't weigh yourself every day because you will only get frustrated beyond where you are right now. Maybe there are other things that you should be eating right now instead of the tuna/chicken, I am sure if you give yourself more time you will be able to eat those things again, you are still new so take it slow, make other choices with food and check with the doctor's office. Also go to the support group, you will hear lots of useful information there and maybe someone else has a solution for your frustrations.

 Have a good day!!

My name is Stephanie and I had my surgery on July 15th so I am 3 weeks out.  At my first follow up appointment I had lost 16.5 pounds in just over a week.  Then they put me on a soft diet and now I have GAINED 3 pounds.  Has anyone experienced this?  I am following what they told me to do and now I am just getting frustrated.  I was expecting to see the pounds keep coming off not gaining pounds back.  I also feel like when I eat canned chicken/tuna it is constantly getting stuck in my esophagus.  Even when I have yogurt this can happen.  Any advice would be great....Thanks

Hi Margo!!!!!

Glad that you're doing well with the liquid diet.  I have been using the Unjury unflavored for my protein supplements and doing great.  I use Lactaid or Dairy Ease (I came out of lap RNY surgery lactose intolerant**** sometimes a little chilled coffee, and Davinci's SF syrup, whiz it in the Magic Bullet, and voila! a tasty treat.

I'll be thinking of you Tuesday.  I've got an appointment with Dee on Thursday, so I'll be anxious to get an update.

I went in today to my PCP for my thyroid levels to be re-tested as last friday they were very high, we are hoping the labs were off and we redid them today, i will have results on Monday.  If they are in normal range then i have all my 'go ahead'

I have Blue Access through BC/BS of IA and got approved in about 10 days.  The biggest thing will be if your husband's policy includes WLS - sadly, many do not.  You should probably call them to make sure WLS is part of his companies contract.

Good luck!
