Topic: RE: Stressing about lack of medical records
I didn't have much for medical records either and have only been seeing my current PCP since October of last year. I didn't do a 6-month weight loss program either and I was approved in 3 days with BCBS.

Oh Lisa. I so feel for you. I actually had mine out before WLS, however, I do remember the pain and it is terrible. Mine stopped working completely I guess and so they just took it out. Not to painful. Just a couple of holes and that was it. Is Smolick doing your surgery? Good luck and I hope that you feel better once it is done. Stephanie

Sally, who is your insurance company? I dont have much for medical records, but I do have Weigh****chers paperwork for 4 months I am kind of hoping that and my high BMI will help me get approval with BCBS.. This is so stressful!
Topic: Gall bladder removal
I got the date for my next surgical adventure. 10-18 I am having my gall bladder removed. I spent last Friday night in the ER thinking I was having a heart attack and pretty sure I was dying. Come to find out I have an enlarged gall bladder full of stones. YIKES!
I thought I had escaped and would not be a statistic with others that I have heard about after WLS. Not so lucky here!

I don't know how high your BMI is, but mine was very high and I didn't have a medical history. I wrote a letter to be included with all the other stuff being sent by the surgeon's office. I explained why I didn't have a medical history--lack of insurance, not getting meaningful help, remembering things like phen-fen, etc. I also included photos from several years documenting that the weight was a chronic issue. And I had some Nutrisystem receipts to throw in just for good measure. I didn't have any probelm with approval.
It is all up to the insurance companies, and many require a 6 month weight loss program regardless. Not that it will harm most people, but it is a big delay.
Good luck,
Sally

That's a good idea. I will need to find another dr though as my pcp is not very enthusiastic about Lapband

I am somewhat concerned about the same thing. I dont have a whole lot of records specifically about obesity, b/c I tried dieting, exercise on my own. I guess we need to just submit what we have and see what happens. You can always try again!
Dr LaMasters said that if you dont have enough records that most of the time you can do a medically supervised diet for 6 months and that is enough. Their dietician would give you a plan and you would meet with your pcp each month. She suggested starting that right away, so if you do get denied you are already partially done with the 6 month timeframe.
HTH!
Topic: Just starting journey
I am excited and scared at the same time. I have attended the educational class, had the consult with Dr. LaMasters (Dr. Eibes new surgeon) and am working on getting my medical records over to them. I set up the psych eval and an endoscopy.
I feel like I have all my duck in a row, but Im still apprehensive about the surgery. I had a long talk with my husband last night and we discussed the pros/cons etc. He 100% supports me on this journey. (after much research and concern) I told him I would not get the surgery if he isnt there for me 100% b/c I cant do this alone. Its a tool, not a miracle cure.
Anyway, how did you make the decision to get the band? I know what to eat, how much to eat, how to eat I just overeat all the time and make bad food choices. I think the band is the commitment I need to do the right things. I love exercise and being outdoors, but I am ashamed to do things b/c of how I look. I hate being judged, and I know it happens. (heck, I would judge my big behind too!) I want to set a good example for my daughter, and not let her adopt my awful eating habits. I really think this is a step in the right direction for me.
