I have not had my surgery yet.....but I am a RN!  That is a lot of excessive fluid weight. It can take up to a month for a normal post-op patient to loose that kind of excessive fluid wgt....
If you have TED hose, wear them through the day to help push that extra fluid back up the circulatory tree to be excreted by the kidneys.

A nurse midwife recommends 1/4 tsp of salt in a cup of water once a day to help pull that fluid back into the circulatory system.  Just do this until the swelling subsides. But don't do this if you have BP problems of course!

Stick to the TED Hose during the day though, they will help!

Topic: Frustrated....
Hello all, my name is Kim!  I am currently in the process of waiting....which admittedly I am not very good at.  I had my consultation with dr. Inman on August 19th of this year.  She was stuck in surgery so we had to wait for 2 hours for her to arrive....this left a bad taste in my mouth.....

After the consultation I hustled around and by the following Monday had ALL of my items faxed to them and had my psych consult scheduled.  I have been really doing a lot of  leg work to aid them in what they have to hunt down, such as old records, doctors signing off on things etc...
I was told that after my psych eval they would "convene" to discuss my case and would submit me to insurance for approval.

I've waited and waited, literally running to the mailbox every day to see if my letter has come to move forward.  Nothing..........

So I emailed Tanya in the business office to see if she would suggest that I contact my insurance to check the status.....Much to my suprise/dismay my pre-qualifying had not even been sent to my insurance yet...........

I've been attending support meetings, going to doctors, doing this, doing that and they haven't even submitted for pre-qualification...........ugh...........what the heck are they waiting on......

Is this a second sign that maybe this is not the surgeon for me??

I'm just feeling very let down and discouraged.  I feel like they have dropped the proverbial ball.

Also has anyone else been diagnosed as having polyps in their stomach d/t long term use of prilosec for GERD.  Could this prevent me from having surgery in the first place??

I jabber on....sorry...nerves I guess...any insight would be appreciated!

Thanks!!
Kim

Hi Taedog,

I'm a little late here in the conversation as I just found this formum but I was wondering if you found an alternative?  I had my consult September 3rd with Dr. Inman.  I checked out Dr. Sloan at Lutheran here in Fort Wayne and then also St. Vincents in Carmel.  Wow what a difference.  I am self pay also.  Lutheran here was $40,000 for surgeon, hosp and anesthesiologist.  St. Vincents and Dr. Inman (Meridian Surgical Group) are going to be $6,280 for Dr. Inman and assistant and $20,000 for St. Vincent & Anethes.  I just found this out today as I finally got ahold of Melissa in Accounts.  The price has gone up a little in the last month.  That is the cash up front price. You also get a 50% discount on cash pay for future office visits.  Dr. Inman's fee includes 90 days global fee (surgery and office visits) and St. Vincent's includes 3 days (2 nights) and all pre testing and post use of the Bariatric offerings.  To get anything under $20,000 total in the U.S. would be hard and you might have to go to a bigger city.  I know Mexico is a lot cheaper (check out "The world according to eggface" blog.  I had several non returned phone calls from the group but I was told at a support group last week that they just had a big office change and lots of people changed positions.  Know I know I am with the surgery scheduler.  So now I am waiting to hear.  It took my daughter, Steph, about 6 weeks to get a date.  Good luck.

P.S.  I know it is a scary prospect paying for it yourself.  My worry is that I will also have to pay for any complications.  That could far more expensive.  But I am taking the chance and investing in my future!

HI Deb,

I've known 2 people in Fort Wayne who had Dr. Severinac (Spelling?)and loved him for tummy tuck.  I'm thinking my neice had Lee after her RNY and liked him.  Good Luck

Deb - I was in Indy Monday for my 18 mo check.  I asked about plastics and they gave me 2 referrals

Carmel Cosmetic & Plastic Surgeons - carmelcosmeticsurgeons.com

I know I've see others from the Indiana OH board speaking well of Debra Bergman MD from Carmel Cosmetic & Plastic surgeons.

I know it's a 2 hour drive and don't know what kinda surgery you are interested in, but if it's bariatric related they will have more experience in Indy area.

HI Brilynn79!  Was curious as to how you are doing post op?  Hope things are going well.  Many problems with the same office here too.  Been thinking about you.  Pretty sure I have the right person.:)
My mom is trying to schedule her surgery with Inman too and having problems with the office too!  Glad it isnt just us but pretty poor for a medical office I agree.

Jen- I worried about my wife and daughter that is still in school. I was not afraid for myself i was afraid on how they would cope with everything. I knew 2 things, 1 was I was not going to get any better if I didn't do something quick. And 2, I put all my faith into the lord. I am not a go to church every week-end kinda guy, but I believe in the lord to know whats best.
I also had Dr. Ditslear and let me tell you in one word. OUTSTANDING surgeon. I had no complications at all no pain and he was excellent. He told me during liver reduction that he wanted me to lose some weight and maintain the reduction diet cause he had concerns of my liver being very large. I did just that. I lost 40 lbs. and when he was done he took a picture of my pouch and liver and said I had done a great job cause my liver was normal size....You need to do what is best for you but I am so happy with my decision. 72 lbs gone forever and I am 4 weeks and 2 days post op.

Good luck!!!!!!

Michael

Hi Sue.  I'm doing great.  Been trying to update my avatar using shrinkpictures.com using 100x100 pictures and I just can't get it to work.  Picture shows up in the box but not on the left hand side so I thought I needed to post an update since its been forever since I've posted anything.

Just had my 10 year surgery anniversary.  Doing wonderful.  Have maintained my weight really well.  What a blessing this surgery has been.  Will be posting some new pictures and a blog in the next week  and talking about pivitol experiences for me that stand out the most.

Let me know how you are doing and what you've been up too.

Thanks, we will all have to get together again when you are feeling better.  Glad you can use the clothes.

I am only one, But still, I am one.  I cannot do everything, but still I can do something.  And because I cannot do everything, I will not refuse to do
the something that I can do.
