Topic: New Year Newbie
Hello,
My name is Gitta and I just created my profile today. Happy New Year.
My RNY is scheduled for 14 January and I am excited.
Topic: RE: water with meals?????
PLEASE research DS VERY WELL before just jumping on it. Hubba isn't giving you everything there is that you need to know. Being able to eat larger quantities is an advantage of DS. But you will also have side effects from the procedure. Bypassing most of a persons small bowel has its problems.
* Frequent soft bowel movements (up to 4-6 per day)
* Frequent passing of foul-smelling gas
* Changes in body odor
* Gas pains or bloating
* Hair loss
* Intolerance of certain foods (varies from person to person)
Also things like malnutrition that can be a problem with RNY are even more so with the DS. Yes the pylorus remains intact and this usually prevents dumping but not always. A major portion of the stomach is permanently removed, which makes the procedure completely irreversible.
I'm not saying the DS is bad or that Hubba is wrong. The DS might be right for you I don't know. I'm saying know what you're getting into. Research and learn. Then decide.
