Hey Jim - I don't know whether or not they are using the new AP band. I'll ask that question when I go in for my pre-op on Oct 5 and let you know. C

Laura,
Thanks for the reply - I'll watch for you in recovery!! I have Dr. Berntsen so maybe we'll be banding at the same time. Good luck.

Topic: RE: Support Group in Wichita
Hi there! I just posted a new message about a gastric bypass/lap band support group in Hutchinson this Thursday, and the fourth Thursday of each month. The meeting is at Hutch Hospital at 6:30 p.m. in the lower level conference room. I have never been there, but plan to go this Thursday! Don't know which way you are from Hutch, but thought I would let you know!

In case anyone is interested, there is a gastric bypass and lap band support group in Hutchinson the fourth Thursday of each month (that means this Thursday) at Hutch Hospital conference room, lower level. For more info, you can contact Joyce Anderson at 620 663-6184 or Cheryl Harstad, 620 663-4977. This will be my first meeting. Hope to see some of you there!

Topic: RE: best place for lap band inkansas. ????
Hi there! I had RNY surgery in August in Columbia, MO, so I cannot tell you who is best at lap band. I can tell you my friend had RNY surgery in Tallgrass in March, 2006, and she has lost 155#. She said the drs there are great. I am pretty sure they do lap band there as well. Good luck!

I haven't had a chance to read much as i am new here. Checking with all the different places and types of surgeries. I think lap band might be the best way for me as i only have 100 lbs to loose. I also am wonder the positive and neg. about overland park surgical center and the tall grass one in topeka. I know the livlite doesn't do lap band.
If anyone can give me specifics on which place they have found to be the best or why they didn't chose one i would appreciate it. also, has lap band been succesfull or should you go for the gastric bypass.
thanks everyone for your input and help.

Sorry, I was just reading and decided I would respond since I too went to Tallgrass. Tallgrass is $12,000 for everything. I was banded on Aug. 27th and I chose them because I've had friends go there and they were happy, plus I looked at all of the centers in Kansas and it's the best!!
Very professional and organized. A great experience! Sorry for the intrusion!

Congratulations to both of you! I am a self-pay shooting for January and if you don't mind my asking, how much does Tallgrass charge? I have attended a couple of seminars in the KC area and still plan to visit Tallgrass before making my final decision. What convinced you to have your surgery there?
