Topic: Hello Kansas
I just has a big intro interducing myself and I lost it. AHHH So here is goes again.
Hello EVERYONE!!
I just had surgery June 16th at the University of MO hospital since that is were I had my surgery I post on the MO a lot.
I live in Olathe KS and we are moving to Topeka in less then a month.
I have been on the journey to WLS since Oct. 2004 and final got my surgery. I still have my drain and can't wait to get it out on Thursday.
I want to invite everyone to the support group and Olathe Medical Center. It is open to anyone. Pre Op or Post Op or just learning. WELCOME!! Let me know if you can come.
It is Thursday.:
If you need directions please contact me. I would love to see some of you there.
I can't wait to get to know some of you better! I will post here more and check in often.
Here is my surgery story I wrote the day after I got home.
The surgery itself went just as planned. I even got in to the operating room early. Spent a little to much time in recovery so my family was worried. They had no need to be worried I was just laying there. They were having trouble getting me on to the floor because the nurses were in the middle of shift change and so getting my report to the right person took a while. Then just waiting for someone to get me from recovery to my room took awhile. So 3 hours later instead of 1 hour I was in my room. Come to find out I should of left recovery with my Pain pump and no I didn't have one and was hurting like hell. An hour later I had my pain pump. I was getting dircet doses of Morphine in my IV while waiting on the pain pump but it just wasn't cutting it.
Went into surgery just before 3pm and wasn't in my room tell 8pm. My family talked to the surgeon at 5:30 so it was a lot of hurry up and wait for them.
9pm I got my pain pump and was up and walking at 1am. I may have over done it here so now I am a little sorer then some. You dont have to walk 3 doors down just getting out of bed at this point is good. I pushed myself a little hard. I've learned not to push to hard. There is a happy medium.
Paseed all my leck test. Getting on that exray board to do one of the test was a *****.
I spent another day in the hospital and left yesturday at 3pm.
I am very sore not going to lie. I feel fine if I am just laying down in the recliner. I slept in the bed last night with pellow*****hed up behind me. Only woke up once through the night to pee.
Im having lost of gass and feel like I may end up pooping myself when letting it go. Just feels that way not really pooping myself.
I know everyone feels different some better then others.
I was able to shower myself last night and change my bandages. That took all I had. I have my drain hooked to a lanyerd around my neck. Seems to be working well.
I've had a sf jello, Isopure (clear in a bottle) and lots of water since being home. My multi and pain meds of course too.
I know I've asked myself what the hell have you done to yoru self. BUT I know it is all worth it.
TIME TO PEE!!

Maybe we could form a support group in the Smith, Phillips, Osborne, Norton, Phillips, Mitchell, Jewell, Republic county area?
Anyone close that would be interested?

Theresa,
I live in Chetopa. Haven't had my surgery yet, but I think it's a great idea to get together and talk. I know I could use the support. Kind of like a therapeutic girls (and boys) night..
Topic: RE: not in Kansas anymore.
I taught at Field Kindley in Cville this past year. I love Coffeyville. I got a job closer to home in OK, but just down the road in Chetopa.I haven't had surgery yet or even scheduled it... Hoping that my insurance will pay, but determined to have my surgery regardless. Nice to meet you!

KD,
Good to see you are doing well, at least now. Sorry about all the little complications you had and I know they are not little after having major surgery! I have been watching for your post.
Eating will get better soon and getting in all the liquids does get easier as well. It just takes a while for all things to come together.
Here is hoping that all continues to go well and you will get more energy as everyday goes by.
Take care and let us know how you are doing.
Kat
Donna,
So good to see you posting and that you are doing well!
Hang in there girl!

Topic: We Need a Local Support Group!!!
Hi Everyone
I had my gastric bypass on Oct 2,2006 in Junction City, KS. I live in Pittsburg, KS. Let me tell you, it was tough enough to make the 4 1/2 hour trip (one way) for all the appointments. Now that I am almost 9 months out, I'm really beginning to feel the need for support!! And I know that it's next to impossible for me to make the trips to Junction City with the price of gas, my busy schedule, etc. etc.....
I am sure that if some of us in the area join forces,we can come up with a way to start a local support group!! I had began this process a while back, unfortunately, my busy schedule made it not happen. I am determined, one way or the other, that WE NEED A LOCAL SUPPORT GROUP!!!!! If there is anyone out there that wants to help me out and lets start calling around, and get something going in the Pittsburg area.
Sure it would be great to have doctor's involved, but lets face it,we don't really have any local dcotor's that do the WLS....I really think even if those of us whom have had the surgery, and those whom are thinking of having the surgery, could get together to share our good times and our bad times, we would all feel so much better. Let's face it, sticking together, and being there for each other would be better than nothing at all.....which is what we have now. Right?
I know for myself, I'm struggling with some things having to do with my surgery, and maybe just having someone else to talk to about them would ease the struggles.
If you want to help me out, message me, or reply to this post, let's all work together, and get our 1st support group meeting under our belt.
Hugs to You All
Theresa
