I have lost 30 lbs on my own in the last 9 months through diet and nutrition. I have at least another 40-50 to lose to even get into the healthy BMI weight category. I am looking for a doctor in the KC metro area who is willing to prescribe Phentermine (appettite suppressant). So far, I have only found listings for clinics and bariatric doctors specializing in weight loss surgery. But I was wondering if some of the clinics/doctors that specialize in surgery also prescribe/promote other areas/types of weight loss? (Thinking they may use tactics getting someone ready for surgery, etc.) If you know of a traditional "diet doctor" in the KC area, or have a better idea of how I could find one, please post. Thank you.  Of course, I know I can ask my PCP, however, I just feel she would not support this as she has done nothing to help w/weight loss thus far. And being that I suffer from Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome and Insulin Resistance I feel a little 'help' is warranted.

Well, even though it isn't necessarily the outcome you had originally hoped for, I am glad you were finally able to get things straightened out.

I just had my lapband surgery this past Monday... so I am on day 2 with my band. I had it done at Tallgrass in Topeka with Dr. James Hamilton. I didn't have to do any supervised diet for insurance purposes, as I had documentation of all the things I have tried in the past. I had to have a psych eval and have all the pre-surgical testing done, but it wasn't all that bad. I started this process in February, so I can't complain about the time it has taken. My surgery went well, I am still loaded on pain killers, (thank gawd) but I am very positive about the change that I have made. I hope you can find a hospital that doesn't give you so much grief... I hate how politics and bureaucratic BS seem to weave their way into our healthcare system. Good luck to you!!! If you would like chat feel free to email me! Twyla

The supervised diet is all an insurance requirement...alot of them have it, but I'm sure it depends on who your insurance is with.  You can get all the information that your insurance requires by looking at their coverage position on bariatric surgery.  If it turns out that you do need it, drop me a line.  I've got a great form you can use that helped me to get approved for surgery in less than a week.  It includes everything on it....type of diet, exercise, behavioral modifications, drug therepy, and misc.....it just makes sure your doctor doesn't miss any required information on any month of the diet.

Kat=  I only went to the parade at Good Ole Days and got drenched.  I am so ready to get my first fill and have more restriction.  I think a support group is a good idea.    gotta run.

I agree with Jeanne on this subject.  The more you know about yourself and have your records together it is better for  you.    The most important thing is to make monthly weigh in's with your PCP even if you are doing weekly weigh in's at Solutions.   Your PCP needs to make sure that when you weigh in they document they talked to you about your weight, what you are doing to change it and what items you have taken to make the changes.    Solutions is a good program and yes they are the only program in this area so you are in a round about way stuck with whay they want and do unless you want to travel.  The physicians here are very good as well and highly trained but not everyone wants to deal with Solutions program.    I am having surgery June 18 and I thought at first that the program was a pain but after attending all the items I had to attend, I would do it over again.   I learned so much that I don't know how you could not do the program and then have surgery.   The information and materials that you are supplied with are worth it.     Any questions, please PM me.  KD

Hey Kat  Donna and I are both having surgery around the same time. June 18th for me and June 19th for her.    I think she is correct in stating that most times we email each other instead of posting here.    I had a really bad experience once after I posted something and so I am a little gun shy of posting to anyone.    Let me here back from you.

Take care...
