Topic: RE: Dort or Lancaster?
Hey Crys Yeah, KD and I both are having to do the 2 week pre-op diet. It is standard for SFL from what I understand. Not fun, but I just figure it will give me a head start on my "new life" Keep in touch!! Donna

Well, I guess then it will be Dort. Kate had already asked me who I wanted to see. I told her Dort. So I guess I will just keep it that way. Do you mind if I come up and see you when you are in the hospital? One of the nurses, was in my pre-op class. She had her surgery a couple of months ago, I think. Are either one of you being put on the 2 week liquid fast?

Even if you get in to see Lancaster prior to seeing Dort, if Dort is not available when Lancaster is then you still won't have surgery. Both Lancaster and Dort HAVE to be available for the surgery date. If one is not available then you will not be scheduled for a date. Donna who is on this site had her appt with Dort the same day I had mine. Donna was scheduled the next day after my day. I will have surgery on june 18 and then she will have surgery on june 19. We had our appt dates with dort on may 4. I hope that helps you out with understanding the process. Feel Free to ask any questions.

I have not been officially approved, but have been told as soon as I meet the criteria, which I will soon, they will approve the first week of June. So I have not even seen the surgeon yet, but was wondering if I could get in sooner and have surgery sooner if I went with Lancaster. Seems like everyone sees Dort and was thinking if I went with him ( Dort) it may take longer to get in and set the date! Congratulations on your date!

Topic: RE: ins approval..anyone have PPK?
I would suggest that you ask the HR department for a copy of the certificate of coverage. Then I would read it front to back and find out how they cover the procedure. With it being through GE you should be okay. You can always call PPK and ask, but I would want to read the certificate myself. Good luck and best wishes.

Trish, Mainly they are checking to see if you can handle the emotional changes that are going to occurr. Also, they what to make sure that you don't have other problems that may effect the out come of the WLS. This is not a problem with most people. I suggest that you relax and listen to what the ask and answer it honestly. Don't try give them the answer they are looking for, just the one that is right for you. You will do fine.

what kind of questions do they ask you? i mean how bad does it have to be to get an approval psychiatrically (is that a word?)?

it is thru General Electric. They paid for a tummy tuck that i needed due to a spider bite debridement that needed to be done, so I'm hoping that if they would pay for something like that, I can get this thru! lol

Trish, I have not seen a PPK policy that has coverage for WLS. It will depend on who the emplyer is and how big of a company. If it is an employer with less that 50 lives, it will not be covered.
