Topic: New Lapbandster to KS Board
Hi! I've been lurking around the different OH Boards these last few weeks while deciding what to do. and Hooray! I had the lapband procedure done at St. Luke's Hospital on the Plaza in Kansas City MO a few days ago 3/19/07. Dr. Price is awesome - a very competent surgeon, good bedside manner, easy to talk with, listens to your concerns, and he has an even better team devoted to his bariatric surgery proctice. Sandy is the poster child for gastric bypass sugery and has an infectious spirit and enthusiasm for regaining one's life back by losing weght. Carla, Dr. Price's nurse, is funny and yet calming and "motherly" when you start to get stressed right before the surgery. So far I'm doing great. A little sorer that I had thought - it really hurts to sneeze, cough, or get the hiccups, and my throat is still scratchy from being intubated during the general anesthesia. The lapban itself is already kicking in. I'm drinking only clear liquids (well, I did add 2 Optifast protein shakes that you blend with water and ice) and I tried some plain oatmeal tonight. I could only get about 3 sponfulls of oatmeal down before I started feeling a heavy tightness between my rib cage. I assume that is the "Full" feeling I'll grow to know and love.
The thought of eating any kind of food pretty much grosses me out right now, and if you had known me one week ago you'd have said "no way." I'm excited we have a local forum for bandsters and other surgical patients. I look forward to talking with many of you in the days, weeks, months to come as we work on reducing our weight and increasing our enjoyment of life!
Topic: RE: Looking for a support group
Hi! I just had the lapband surgery on Monday, 3/19, and I know that St. Luke's hospital is starting a support group soon. When I get the info I'll be happy to email it to you. Dr. John Price has just started doing Lapbands and RNYs at St. Luke's - Plaza and I was one of his first surgeries. I'd love to be part of an in-person support group. Sarah.
Topic: RE: KANSAS ROLL CALL!!
Hi! I had the lapband surgery on Monday, 3/19, and was self-pay. My surgeon uses BLIS, which is an insurance program for people who self-pay. It was an extra $2500 up front, but it sure gave me peace of mind. I was more afraid of the general surgery and potential problems from anesthesia than from the surgical procedure itself. It all went very smoothly, though, and I can't say enough good things about my doctor, John Price, his awesome staff or the hospital, St. Luke's Plaza. I'm surprised at how sore I am still (3 days post op) but I do feel a little better each day. Good luck!

Topic: RE: Help! Where can I purchase a secondary insurance plan
I fully understand your rant, I get a little hot under the collar about it too. I question why these companies make the choices they do. No one can give me a reliable answer yet.
