Topic: RE: Does BCBS of Kansas PPO cover lap-band or any other weight loss surgery?
Hi Jessica -
If you haven't already, try to get a copy of your insurance coverage statement or call the customer service center and ask specifically if your policy covers weight loss surgery.  if you determine it doesn't, start talking to the surgeons in your area.  I've heard great things about the surgeons at the Bariatric Center of Kansas City and they are advertising a special for the Band right now for $11,999 and they also show on their webiste that they have financing options available.  (http://www.kcbariatric.com/).  Maybe call them and see what they would recommend.  Either way, good luck!  It sounds like you are determined so hopefully everything will work out!
Good luck to you!
Warm Regards,
Kim

Topic: RE: MEDICAID AND MEDICARE SURGEONS LIST!
I got a call from Turning Point in Topeka today (Tues 2/23/10) and they are no longer accepting Medicare or Medicaid because they have had too many billing issues with them.  I had all my paperwork and just needed my first doctor appointment in order to schedule surgery and now I am hunting again for a doctor to take my insurance.

Topic: RE: No Bariatric Doctor will except me after out of state move.
Hi, I have been searching for a doctor that will accept my insurance and it looks like my insurance won't cover the procedure at all.  However in all my surgery, even considering Mexico procedure, I did find a local place that will accept other patients from Mexico and out of state procedures.  I
noticed you said you were probably sticking with your doctor from MI but thought I would still offer.

Their website is: http://www.iabsobesitysurgery.com/

Good luck!

I am trying to figure out a way that I can have lap-band surgery.  I can get bcbs of Kansas ppo but I am not sure if they cover weight loss surgery.  If I decide to do self-pay does anyone no of a loan program or surgery center that the payments are not 300.00 or more a month?  I am in desperate need of help.

Thanks,

Jessica

He'll email you something like 11-13 pages of forms to fill out and bring with you to the appointment; have a talk with you, have you take the MMPI on the computer there, then go over the results with you there.  At least that is how mine went in July.

Topic: UPDATED: Done: In desperate need of an MMPI!!!
Got this done!   The only thing stopping me from getting my first consult with a new surgeon (and surgery within a month) is the required MMPI.  Does anyone know of a psychologist/psychiatrist who does these and accepts Medicare and/or Medicaid?  I am in the KC area but would go up to 1.5 hours or so away, maybe a little further to find one... PLEASE help...

I second the idea, check up here in Topeka at Tallgrass. They are a great bunch of surgeons. I would think it would get tiring going back and forth to Michigan, not to mention cost prohibitive for the travel!

"again BC/BS KS and was told that my policy not covered WLS."

Do you mean "now covered WLS"?   Wow, if so, this is the first I have heard of this.   So BC/BS of KS paid the charges on your Lap-Band?
