I am considering this surgery but I do enjoy an occasional glass of wine or a few beers with my friends at a wedding, etc. I also smoke cigarettes whenever I have a drink, and not any other time. I can quite smoking, but I can't imagine NEVER having another drink... HELP!!!! :smoken:

I have a drink on occassion. As a matter of fact, I may have a strawberry daquiri this evening. I think it's calories that you really need to watch. Alcohol is fattening ;)

There is a lifestyle change with the band and alcohol is a biggie for me, as I love my wine, but I have decided to really make a commitment to saving my wine consumption for special times. Before WLS I had a regular date on Fri eve with a few glasses of merlot and way too many cheese and crackers. Now I have to say I enjoy the occasional glass more since it's special, and I don't eat as many appetizers. Being buzzed really screws up your dieting ability. The beauty of this is you never have to say NEVER. Anything you want you can have, just not a heck of alot of it. Some Dr's agree moderation is okay, but beer is carbonated and I believe it causes some problems. Check with your Dr on that. Smoking is just plain no good and if they could make a healthy one, we all could go back to it, but weather it's occasional or not it's not doing you any good, so please try to quit. good luck Patty

Occasional alcoholic drinks can be worked into a healthy lifestyle. The big thing is empty calories...but as with everything, the key is moderation. While carbonation is usually considered a no-no, the occasional glass of wine is not a problem at all...you just have to account for the calories like anything else Plus, they keep showing some health benefits with wine hehe Nancy 394/299/180

Thank you all for the advice. I guess with anything in life- I don't like to think of NEVER, EVER, EVER with something or it will make me devote a lot of attention to obsessing over it. I am much more excited about losing weight and maintaining a healthy lifestyle then I am about having beer. But I will triple check with my surgeon as well. THANKS AGAIN....
