UNBELIEVABLE

Hi Everyone. There was an article in the Springfield paper last week about gastric bypass surgery. It was a nice article about a lady who had lost alot of weight and was doing great...anyway in tonight's paper in the reader's letters section was a letter from a Dr. Bernard F. Kennetz, Jr., of Nixa, Mo. he wrote "You cannot make something out of nothing. This is a fundamental law of nature. People are fat because they take in more than they use, period. Overeat, you get fat. Undereat, you get skinny. What part of this is so difficult for people to understand? The Roux-en-Y gastric bypass procedure covered on the News-Leader's front page Oct. 26, "Drastic surgery brings dramatic results," is more indicative of what Americans have become than it is of any invented disease. The real disease is not obesity. The real disease is the disease that plagues our entire culture: lack of personal responsibility, lack of self-respect, and lack of personal accountability. It's not my fault...I can't help it...And let someone else pay for it. This is the new American creed. Morbid Obesity is just one more manifestation of the "you help me" American plague. The irresponsible morbid now want the responsible non-morbid to foot the bill. What a country! Too bad there are no shots, pills, or procedures for laziness and stupidity." Dr. Bernard F. Kennetz, Jr. Nixa, Mo. I don't know why but I let this very ignorant man make me feel ashamed for about a half a minute. Just wanted to share this with everyone. Sheila

blah, blah, blah! Sounds like he doesn't qualify for the surgery, poor guy! You've been banded! Rejoice! I pay for my insurance, I paid for my surgery, didn't ask any non-morbid soul to pay for my "inability" to stop shoveling food in my mouth! I'm glad it only bothered you for 1/2 a minute. Now let it be gone and feel sorry for the guy, and his patients... and lack of "patience". He was probably just having a really bad day! Make a Great Day for yourself! Tash

Dude, what an ass. How about this; I paid for my surgery, so I am paying for my own 'lack of responsibility'. Sheesh. You can certainly tell that this guy has never had a problem with poundage. Yes, you "eat less, you get skinny" but it's not that friggin easy. We need to bomb this paper with letters. I hate stoopid people. grrrr Sarah

Sounds as if his practice may suffer as a result. He may lose the respect of collegues and patients alike. I truly believe that this man may end up or may currently regret that he opened his big mouth. Some things are best remained unsaid. Madame Yess

Oh, this guy is a TOTAL tool! Check out THIS "opinion" . . . http://springfield.news-leader.com/opinions/ozarksvoices/0519-Neweraofra-90995.html I'm willing to bet he's NOT a medical "Dr.", not with that kind of attitude, anyway. Too bad there are no shots, pills or procedures for being a general a-hole.

I wonder if the wonder "dr" says the same thing about those with cancer brought on by smoking or suffer other complications as a direct result of it? Or maybe those complications as a direct of alcohol/drug abuse? As others have stated...I certainly pay quite enough for my premiums and up til now, I have rarely gone to the doctor and Thank God my family has been a pretty healthy bunch. Grrr.... what an unthinking idiot! CT

Here's my theory... He's a jerk with an extreme bias against overweight people. He's obviously got some issues to deal with. Just because they have "Dr." before their name doesn't make them instantly credible or knowledgeable in the area they are writing about. Unfotunatlely, even those doctors that graduated last in their class (which he obviouly did) still have an MD. Don't let it bother you because we all know it's not true. Ann K.
