OT: Do you suffer from CARPEL-TUNNEL SYNDROME?
I don't but:
I was wondering if any body has had or currently suffer from this horrible thing? I don't think I do but I was wondering what other kinds of symtoms you suffer from other than pain.. I know I could look it up online but wanted to check real life situations and their other complaints regarding this illness..
Christine:)
I suffered from a severe case of carpel tunnel. Had the operation several years ago and feel great now.
I would get totally numb from my finger tips to my elbow, get sharp pain in the same area too. I would wake at night due to the numbness and pain. I also lost strength in my hand. I would drop things all the time. I remember one Christmas, I couldnt get through 2 cards without having to stop to regain feeling. It was horrible but I'm so happy I had the surgery and would suggest anyone to go through with it, if they are considering it. "The nerve test EMG I believe it is called, is soooooo painfull"
I had a bad case of CTS a few yrs ago. I had out patient surgery and no pain afterwards. I needed no meds for pain. The CTS was worse then the surgery. Your thumb and the finger next to it are not usually effected. The other 3 go numb and tingle. It can be bad enough to go to your elbow and sometimes to your neck. The normal is numbness in the hand, esp at night or when driving, or holding something. Your hand may also feel tight in the center when you stretch it out. Mine was so bad I woke up in the middle of the night and put ice on my arm bec it felt like it was on fire. I had it in both hands but when the one was fixed it went away in the other too. It is now back in the hand that wasnt operated on. I wear a brace at night but it still is numb. My insurance co allowed for me to go to a doc w/ no referral so I looked up an Orthopedic surgeon and just went. He will evaluate you. I had a nerve test with electrodes hooked to my hand, this told them the severity. I was in a soft cast for 10 days and then the stiches were removed. Sometimes physical therapy is needed to get the hand back in shape but I didnt need it.
I'm at fairly high risk, and when I was pregnant it was awful. Just holding a fork for any longer than a minute and my hand would go numb. I type for a living, so it is a hazard. If I paint, it is worse for a day. I don't have a very strong grip, compared to when I was younger. My hands/forearms go to sleep when lying on them at night. If I've been using my hands a lot then it is more often and more intense. I have not had really great pain and haven't been evaluated, but it wouldn't be a shock if I was found to have a mild case of it.

Oh...... and my garden is a mess
