Hey Cindy!
I bet there are a lot of teachers and nurses too!

I'd love to do a study on obesity.  It seems it's the "care takers" of the world who think of others before themselves - who become overweight.

What do you think?

Hi Dee!

I think you're right about the care takers of others!  :)  Social workers, teachers, nurses.... who else?  I definitely fall into the category of taking care of others first, to my own detriment.

BTW, can you believe my baby is due 5 weeks from tomorrow?!  My goodness, we have a lot to do before then!!  :)

I can't believe only 5 weeks!  WOW!  I bet you're anxious!  Do you know the gender?  I never wanted to know.  But accidently found out just before!  I love attending those deliveries when the parents had no idea!

I'll be looking forward to seeing lots of pictures of that little one!

Dee,

I can't believe it's only 5 weeks, either!!  We didn't find out the sex!  We didn't know with Caroline and thought it'd be more fun not to know (although my mom and sister are annoyed that they can't go shopping in advance)!

Hugs!

I KNEW I was bumping elbows with more of "my kind!"

I too am guilty of putting other people first and my needs much later.  I am classically conditioned to do this from a less than perfect childhood.  My role in the family was the peacekeeper/fixer.

My first marraige was simply a continuation of this as he was physically disabled and NEEDED me to take care of him.  Now, he was also highly educated, had his whole family at his beck and call and a couple girlfriends to boot.  For some reason he couldn't seem to find a job he liked enough to keep all the while I was working 3 part-time jobs and working on my degree.  He was manipulative and somewhere during my graduate work I saw it for what it was and walked away before he sucked me dry.

Fast forward to today and I can finally say I now take my needs into account as well as that of my family.  This hubby is also so much more considerate and respectful of my wants, desires and needs.  Are we perfect?  Nope!  But I also can now realize that "perfect" isn't necessary!

Glad to see there are so many of us on here....makes me feel good about the "wild hairs" we get on here and identifying things that might warrant a more significant degree of attention.  not that I think we should be watch dogs mind you...

I work for Headstart as a Home Visitor.  It is -kinda- like a cross between a preschool teacher and a social worker.  I help the parent teach child- and we work directly with the family in their home.  Part of this is to help the family with any needs they may have,  goal setting, ect. - most of our families fall below poverty.  And yes- we do get into some real sticky situations at times.

Not exactly! But my first degree is Psychology, my Masters is Social Psychology; I have taught Psychology for 20 yrs and then ended my teaching career by 7 years in a  school for teenagers with learning and behavioru difficulties (inlcuding ASD, Downs etc.).

So not all that far away. Believe you me, in my last job, dealing with the families I felt like a social worker!
