I think it is terrible that people in here can't keep their nasty opinions to themselves. They should be ashamed. I laughed at the kitty joke and totally got the picture in my mind of the lady at the counter being rude and insensitive to you. Just because her english isn't good, doesn't mean she is stupid.. she knew what she was doing. I say you were right to leave. Maybe restaurants don't have to give a discount, but they should. Oh poor chinese buffett, give me a break. They would have made plenty of money off your family even if they gave you a few bucks off. I think the best thing you could have done is leave. AND tell your friends and family not to eat there.
I don't have a card, no one gave me one. I haven't tried to get less or cheaper, I just try to stay away from those traps. I go where I can order A La Carte and leave it at that. Sometimes I just say I can't eat very much or I had stomach surgery. Most people who have worked in any restaurant for any amount of time at all have come across this and they get it. It has come a long way in the last several years. I used to go out with my mom, she had to explain to most wait staff what it was and why, or else they thought something was wrong with the food. Now people get it.
Restaurants are hard, but it will get easier for them and us over time. We just have to put our big girl panties on and either pay too much or tell them we are looking for less and deal with the conseqences.
Thank you for posting this. I think this is a very relavant topic on this board and I am sure many appreciate your honesty.

Pot, kettle....
. . . Maybe restaurants don't have to give a discount, but they should. . . .
I'm quite late to the party, but I have to say I disagree, vehemently. I haven't read all the other posts, so forgive me if I'm being redundant here, but when a MO person eats three or four times what a Normie person eats at a buffet, should they pay 3-4 times more?
Something that I think is lost on most regarding these "cards" is that they are being given out by doctor's offices without the knowledge or consent of the restaurants that are expected to honor them. If you own a business, how would you feel is someone showed up at your business expecting a discount because some unknown third party told them you'd give a discount?
As a business owner, I can tell you I wouldn't take too kindly to someone, who has no interest in business, deciding that I have to give away a part of my profits.

Capital DoulbeYou, H.A.T? Are you for real? Now, I'm being accused of ripping off the place which never even served me JUST BECAUSE I ASKED TO ORDER FROM THE KIDS MENU by showing the card that my DOCTOR gives out in his practice?
Oh, what is this world coming to?

I am sorry for your embarassment. I am glad you walked out and I wouldn't go back. I too was given one of those cards, I threw mine away. We almost NEVER eat out as a town trip is 2 hours away. I know that where I was banded (rapid city, sd) the doctor said that a majority of the food places there did take them.
As for the race card, I am sick and tired of that being played. It is terrible that because of other people causing heartache to someone those of us who were not intending to be racist, just to tell our story to the full extent get a red flag thrown in our face. And for the record I have native american, black, mexican, innuit, and white all in my blood lines!!
I chose not to use the card b/c I did not want to hear about it getting rejected, yes, the few $ would be nice to save, yet the few dollars that I would save would not be worth the one time of embarrasment!
Good luck on your ventures.
Oh and the kitty joke, was funny, and I took it as just funny.

I think you are entitled to feel how you felt about your experience regardless of your humor over the ladies accent or the kitten. I would have been just as ticked and turned off but I more than likely would not have chosen a buffet and instead would have gotten take out delivered or gone to an actual chinese restaurant where I had options.
It's no surprise they were rude about it. I honestly can't imagine anything less but I do think it's miscommunication and misunderstanding. It reminds me of a time I went to a chinese place across the street for lunch with a coworker and she wanted to order a dish with no onions. The owner at the front was LOUD and RUDE and basically scolded her for asking to make a subsitution. Now she is Irish and has a mouth on her like no other and I will not repeat here what she said for the sake of offending others on this board. Nonetheless she never patroned there again.
If this EVER happens to me anywhere, I will simply get up and leave and never go back, and I will tell everyone about my exp. Most chain restaurants that have a management that need to uphold a reputation would have a bit more couth.
I don't think anyone should have to explain their dietary needs to order from a kids menu but again it's the choice of which restaurants will allow that to happen without a fuss.
I hope you and your family have a better experience next time.

I can see it happening and BTW I see nothing wrong with you quoting exactly what she said.
There is a Chinese buffet right across from my office and everyone from work always wants to go. For the most part, we usually get it "to-go" and go back to work to eat. I load up the container with all kinds of stuff I can have and I usually get lunch and dinner for 4-5 days out of it. After a brief conversation with the manager explaining that I had surgery and can't eat much, they now allow me to pack a to-go box even if we stay. I'll have my soup and a couple nibbles out of the container while everyone else goes crazy with multiple trips to the buffet. What's funny tho' is I always feel like they are watching me to make sure I don't go back.
Buffet places usually don't allow a to-go container AFTER you've eaten, but would they allow you to fix a to-go container as your meal? If this is one of your family's favorite places it might be worth a talk to a manager that might better understand your intention.

Actually they do work. When I was in vegas and went to buffets they took the card and gave me the child's price. You should have just eaten off your kiddos plate. I've done that before. :) Honestly, avoid those places that don't accept them. They aren't WLS friendly. I've been to a few buffets where they allowed me to use it.

When you used to eat more than your fair share did you request to pay more for your food?
