Pain on left side under rib cage?

I have pain on my left side after I eat something  a little fatty or a little too much food. The pain starts on my left side and then becomes severe cramping where I almost double over. It takes about a half an hour to subside. The only other thing that activates it is if I have a bowel movement.
I was told three years ago that I had a gallstone 5mm but I haven't had any problems.
Anyone have any ideas?
Thanks,
Crystal

I had my gall bladder removed back in August.  I was having awful pain that would last for days accompanied with vomitting and nasuea.

You should go have it checked out, because you may be full of stones now.

the gall bladder is on the right and that is where the pain is felt.  The pain u described is where ur band is and u definatel need to talk to ur surgeon!

I have very similar symptoms, like you typically with certain foods.  The doc chalks it up to gas and food choice issues (she wants me to get more solid protein as I do a lot of shakes) combined with  muscular aches (I do a lot of lifting and crunches), but we're watching it closely - I didn't get a fill the last time.  I get really crampy in my gut and my body makes some serious noises when I have an episode like that with the pain on the left side.  I was worried its heartburn, just manifesting differently.  In any event, I agree with others to have it checked.

Hi Crystal,

You mentioned that your pain is on your LEFT side. Your Gallbladder is on your Right side. I had to have my gallbladder removed after severe pain (full of gallstones). For me the pain was mostly on my right side under the ribs. Lately I have had pain under my left side rib cage and don't know what it is. I am going to my surgeon for a fill on 12/11 and I will definately be asking him about it. I will let you know what he says. I would also talk to your doctor as everyone is different.

A few people have encountered this issue, myself being one of them. Some suspect it is something called splenic flexure syndrome, essentially gas gets trapped in the bend of the large intestine near the spleen. The thing I found most helpful was to drink plenty of water and then later, lay down on my left side until the gas moves out. When it was especially bad, reglan helped as well. Eventually I stopped having this problem, but honestly I don't know what changed.

Please get it checked out.  That was the final sign that my band had slipped and was too red/inflamed to let it "wait".  I'm really not trying to scare you, but the longer you let it go on, the worse it will get.

Every time I've had pain like that, I've been constipated.
