Phentermine & the band

Hi All,
I have been off the boards for a very long time. I have been stalled for around a year. I can not have the excess skin removed unless I lose another 40lbs so I asked my PCP about phentermine and she gave it to me. I work out at curves 3 to 5 times a week and still eat only about 1/2 cup at meals. I was really tight for the last year just got it all worked out. So have any of you tried it while being banded. I just want a boost to drop those last 40lbs.

I don't think there are any medical reasons a bandster shouldn't take phentermine - as long as you can swallow the capsule or pill. But there are lots of other medical issues to consider (I'm assuming your PCP went over that with you).
When I took phentermine pre-band, I had bad insomnia, and I quickly developed a tolerance to the medication.
Good luck!

I have been banded for over 9 months now, but because of acid reflux I have not been able to have any fluid in my band, trying to get the reflux under control. So I have no restriction. While I still can only eat 1/2-1 cup a meal my only problem was that I was starving in between meals. My doctor perscribe phentermine for me. I have been taking it for over 2 months now. I only take 1/2 a pill a day and it has helped with being hungry all the time. It hasn't made a huge difference in my weight loss. I still lose about 1 lb a week, but I don't feel as hungry. The dr perscribed 1/2 to 1 pill a day, but the pharmacist said to stay at 1/2 pill as long as it works. So far 1/2 works for me. I really didn't have many side affects. I was very drousy the first two days, but no jitteryness for me and my blood pressure is actually lower than it was before I took it. I have been on BP meds for years so I was warned about that. My insurance will not pay for it though. Tell you pharmacist to run it through without insurance it is cheaper that way.
Good luck.
Good luck.

I am going to use costco to fill the RX it is only $15 where as everywhere else it is like $40+. Thanks for letting me know. At least you are losing a lb a week. I have been stalled for a year.
Years ago I took PhenFen. Wonderful for me! I lost 70lbs in 6months. Unfortunately we know what happened to there....
Ive tried phentermine by itself and its OK (IMO) I lost about 9 lbs the first week, but nothing after that. I also was taking the little white pill with the blue specks on there...I think that is a lower dose. When I was taking it as PhenFen I took the capsules.
for me, the insomia wore off after a couple days, but unfortunately the appetite supressant/energizer wore off fast.
Let us know.

Lex - So glad you finally got through the stall! OP - I'm not banded as I lost my band in July, but Phentermine has helped me lose so I teeter on a 8 lb. up and down my weight out of band removal surgery. I've started my exercise regimen again, so I think I'm down a few again. I love it and I too, take Sundays off from it. I take Topamax with it as well - so that helps in addition. I don't take a break from that though. I LOVE both and they've helped my impulses tremendously and somewhat taken over for the hunger issue. Not like having the band however :-( Good luck!
