I wont go into much detail about the amount of fluid in my band BUT, they tell me how much they put in and how much they take out...I write it down every time on the Realize website and on my calendar. They say my numbers are wrong...ok, then you told me wrong...anywhoo There are a couple cc's floating around somewhere and after my 1cc unfill....I feel NOTHING.

Im as free as I was before my first fill. It was a relief since I was vomiting twice a day for two weeks though.

Now the problem is I can eat a sandwich! OMG...how I have longed for a sandwich...a hamburger ON THE BUN! LOL heaven....Im trying here, but its like Ive been deprived for soooo long.

I feel like a recovering alcoholic or drug addict thats just been let loose at a Woodstock or something!

How do fight it knowing that you can have it....especially knowing you wont be 'allowed' to eat them for long??

I wouldn't have even tried it to be honest.   Good luck figuring things out.  Just knowing I could eat something wouldn't be good for me.

You need to get a grip and realize that its just food and its not worth all of the accomplishment you have made so far.  Back away and look at it from a different perspective.  You are not being deprived, you are being restructured to eat a healthy diet for you and your family.   The foods you gave up were not meant to be temporary.  We should be learning new eating habits so that if we all lost our bands tommorrow, we could make good choices.  STOP and think first.  You can do it. I have faith in you.

Pre-band I experienced that out of control feeling more times than I care to remember.  I'm still pretty new to all of this but I think that your dilemma has more to do with your thought process than the physical issues of your band.

I'm sure there was a lot of thought that went into your getting your band.  I think you should go back in your mind to what brought you to the decision of getting your band in the first place and how you felt about it and the commitment you gave it.  You need to find that committed feeling again and renew your "band vows".............lol.

It doesn't matter about your band's restriction - don't give it that much power - you know how you are supposed to be eating and you need to get yourself back there - give yourself a kick in the backside so to say.............lol.  Even with a restricted band you can suck back on milkshakes and eat chocolate -  but you know the consequences.  Also - we should never feel deprived.  There are so many recipe and menu ideas here and online - you can enjoy the foods you love - just in a different way and in different quantities.  Think of how far you've come - you can do this.

I'm sending you (((restraint & commitment vibes))))............lol

I'm sure you've heard this before, but the band is a tool that will only work if you use it properly.  If you were vomiting, there is a chance that your band might have been too tight, but it might also be because you're eating too much, eating too fast, not chewing well enough, or eating the wrong things.

The band will not make good decisions for you, that's all up to you.  You HAVE to get your head in the right place in order to succeed.

I have been in your shoes and I know what it's like to crave "forbidden food," but if you use the band the right way, and if you're one of the lucky ones who can tolerate it, you might be able to eat all your favorite foods... just much, much less.  I can eat a lot of things that many band patients can't.  But do I do it all the time just because I can?  NO!  Because THOSE are the things that got me to weigh over 300 pounds in the first place.

You need to think about why you went to the trouble of having your surgery.  What's more important to you?  Being healthy, feeling better, being more active, being able to shop where you want, making your family proud, having self worth?

Or eating "because you can?"

Mary,

Why don't you just eat a hamburger on a bun, enjoy it, and be done with it?

When I look at a food as "forbidden", I want it twice as much as I would if it were on my mental "approved" list.  A little child in me still, after 56 years, hears my mother say, "I forbid you to slide down the banister" and immediately runs up the stairs so she can slide down the banister.

I had a complete unfill last summer to treat a band slip.  The morning after the unfill (when I was still supposed to be on liquids), I went to McDonald's and ordered a sausage biscuit with cheese - an old favorite I hadn't been able to eat for something like 2 years (which is just as well).  The first bite was heavenly.  The second bite was good.  The third bite was so what.  After the fourth bite I suddenly thought, "This is really disgusting.  It's greasy and salty and I don't even remember why I used to have to eat at least one of these every day."  The thrill was gone, thank goodness!

I am new to this but i agree completely with this train of thought. If you eat clean 90 even 80% of the time you will lose and you will be fine. Its the "dont ever eat that again mentality" is why most diets fail. This isnt suppose to be a diet but a new way of life. I feel the same about obsessive cardio in the beginning then burning yourself out just to speed weight loss. I believe do the cardio in moderation, when weight loss stalls then up it a little something you can do long term. Just my .02. Sorry if i got off topic

Thats exactly it...Im eating that crap because I can.

Thanks guys, thats just what I needed. My craziness lasted a week....and it ends now.

An open band is not an open invitation to eat whatever you want. I tasted what I wanted, now I need to get back to business. I know that the voices in my head have been telling me..."you have been so tight that you couldnt eat at all...now its ok...you deserve to eat this crap..." NOT TRUE. What I DESERVE is to be healthy not feed my high cholesterol and blood pressure more.

I feel like one of those kids...all hyped up and running around going crazy...then hits a wall and bumps their head back to the real world! LOL

Thanks, I just needed to hear it from you.

Aww Mary I totally feel you, what I would do for a burger seriously that is one thing I do miss terribly. I even had a dream once about one.. seriously a meat patty just isn't the same.

With that being said, if you do want to eat your burger or sandwich maybe make them at home where you can control the ingredients.

Sandwich - some low calorie Sara Lee Bread 45 cal a slice, some ham or turkey from the deli counter - low sodium variety..a little Mayo (I use the Olive Oil kind) or a few slices of avecado, some mustard two slices of tomato a little lettuce... YUM! And I don't think it would make a big dent calorie wise...

Burger same thing .. whole wheat bun, a little mayo, ketcup, mustard, 2% American Cheese is like 45 - 50 calorie.. you can control the size of your patty use 93% lean sirlon, some onion, tomato and lettuce. Again compared to a fast food joint or TGIF your not looking too bad here...

Good Luck
