I had not heard a thing about the DS until I got on OH.  I had decided to have the RNY (thinking that my only choices were RNY or Lapband).  I stayed with the rny after hearing about it because I didn't have enough brains to poor **** out of a boot and I could get the RNY done quickly.  As the RNY surgery date got closer and closer I got more and more nervous, until my husband told me to put the surgery off.  After that we researched the DS more and talked to my insurance (its a little different I have BCBS-FEP) as well as printing off all the journal articles.  That was when we decided to go ahead with the DS and found a surgeon and had the surgery.

I know I speak as a we, my husband is wonderful and helped with research as well as he reads my posts and will even answer as me sometimes so always check whose name is signed.

I didn't hear about it until I got on here. I thought lapband but with my sugar problems, docs recommended bypass. I really didn't like the thought of a blind stomach, dumping, no nsaids, etc. and I was curious at the different forums so I kept checking them out. I had to read dsfacts about 30 times and just read every single night to understand.

I'm still having to learn about the vites but have loved my ds since the first moment.

I didn't know!!  I did learn about it from this board when I was already working on getting another surgery and when someone brought it to my attention I then studied all of the different surgeries I could find since I didnt know there was anything other than RNY or lapband. I was excited to know there were lotsof options and I liked being able to check it out.

I found out recently that my moms best friend...she is in her 60's  had the DS 20 years ago!!!!
I knew she had a WLS and I always thought it couldnt be the RNY but upon discussing this with ehr recently it turns out it was a DS....I didnt know they did them that long ago!  She is super paranoid about her "emissions"  Ive never noticed but I will say this woman eats really bad IMO!!!  she might eat a can of corn in a whole day for a week at a time. she is stick skinny but who eats like that?!?!??!  its not the surgerys fault of course! LOL

Why yes Anne I have heard of the DS  Thank you for asking!    I actually heard about it from my uncle's cousin's hairdresser's dog trainer's mechanic on my twice removed aunt Suzie's side......

And I may have heard a few things from the board here

I actually chose the DS after hearing about it on obeisity help, researching for months and months and then setting up my doc appointment...folks on here helped BUNCHES!!!

NOW....if peeps can't be nice to my Anne I might have to kick more than doctor's butts...the girl just trying to see if anyone was interested in learning about the DS. She didn't tie anyone to a chair and threaten to hit them with wet noodles until they cave into the surgery....

Oh and dear girl, five pages of comments on one post...I think you may have hit a record on here lol!!!!!!

I love allllll my fellow DSers, Bander's, RNY'ers, VSG'ers...and whatever surgeries are out there, people's...we are a community...don't make me make us all get together, hold hands, and sing song round the campfire...cause i'll do it!!!!!  :0)

I learned about the DS from a RNY'er!!!! on this site!!!  Was giving up on all surgeries due to my gastric reflux and not wanting RNY and the dumping and reactive hypoglycemic complications so often talked about.

Explored my options and did lots of research and had my DS

I Do love my ds..
