well, Im not banded yet, but I have gone out and bought:

Isopure punch
Special K Protien Water
Atkins Shakes in various flavors

for protien. The Special K does have lots of carbs though, but I only bought a couple bottles and only for the first week during healing.

That Wii Fit is pretty cool. My DH had the same problem, he was just a little over and it wouldnt let him play.

I was a little embarassed by it...That lovely WHA...WHA...WHA when it made my little mii all FAT! LOL wow!

Sheryl, do you maybe not have your board on a flat surface? Yours sounds a little finicky! DH was borin in 1969, granted I wasnt there watching him, but I dont remember him mentioning he couldnt get his birthday in.

So...I went in this morning for my 2D Echo. I asked the Tech if she thought I was gonna have a heart attack or not...laughing of course. She said I looked fine. Not that she has the final say or not, but it is helping me feel a little better.

Just wanted to post an update. I should know by Monday if Im still good to go!

Keep your fingers crossed for me!!
THANKS!

Well Said!

Why is it my health insurance will send me to rehab for a month but will not pay for my WLS??

Id like to see a rehab center send thier recovering addicts out into a dark alley lined with drug dealers, bars and liquor stores!

Topic: RE: Lap Band or Realize
I was also given the option of which band I wanted. My surgeon pretty much said...if you enjoy tracking your food and such online, then go for the Realize. I have my final consult on Monday. I plan on leaving the decision up to him. He will be the one seeing my insides...I researched and can not make the decision on my own!

Well, my PCP office just called to tell me they rejected my surgery clearance. They said I had a Borderline Abnormal EKG.

Ugh, did I just get hit with a ton of bricks?

Im 2 weeks away from my dream...I have been fantasizing about this surgery and frankly it has been my lifeline as this year has been horrific.

I have an appt in the morning for a 2D Echo. My final surgical consult, NUT counseling and meeting with the anest. is Monday.

Please tell me Im not the only one or my chances have not been totally crushed.

Thanks.

I REALLY like the Atkins chocolate shakes. I havent tried too many other except for the EAS low carb...I thought it was watery and not very yummy.

BJ's carries them by the case...at least here in Maryland.

Sandy, Thank you so much for posting that information. My surgeon does not do fills with flouro, and it seemed to me to be the way to go. Your explination makes me feel much better...plus thank goodness I wont have to drink that yucky barium every time!

Hmmm, I'll have to ask now.

thanks Jean...You always have the answer! I dont know, for some reason I was thinking it was at the top opening portion of the stomach instead of the 'exit'.

Ok, I'll relax a little.

Topic: RE: how long do you wait to drink after you are done eating?
My instructions are 30 min before...30 min after.

The NUT explained to me to stop drinking before eating, because the liquid lubricates the pouch and that helps the food slide thru.

I guess I'll find out...

Yup...add me to the list too! I have suddenly found myself living alone, so I dont have to buy 'family' foods. Im just shopping for me now. So...whats easy...frozen pizza, hot dogs, cereal, chips or going out. I just have my appetite back, so now Im hungry.

I wasnt put on a diet before surgery either, but Im trying to get myself motivated to at least do low carb for a week at least before.

Good luck to us all!

Hey All!
I had all of my pre-op testing done on Tuesday. When I had my upper GI, the radiologist (?) mentioned that I had an abnormal duodenum...but that it was common. He was having a hard time getting some pictures, so I had to be a little extra acrobatic when drinking the lovely barium! LOL

Just wondering if anyone else had this issue and if it may be a problem with me getting banded. Of course, Im sure I will hear from the surgeon...just getting worried I guess.

Thanks!

I totally agree with Jean. Those are all of the same reasons I chose to have the band. I figured if something happened with the band, it could be fixed earlier and there is no permanant re routing of my body and rebuilding of what is natural.

I would however LOVE to be a fast loser...but I'll have to wait and see.
Good luck in your choice.

Wow, so many different responses...That shouldnt be a suprise since Ive been reading the boards and I  REALLY do see how much we are all different in this journey.

They bumped my surgery from 8 am to 11. I do remember hearing that 23 hour thing...so I guess that would put me at 10 am the next day. Wonder if they count from the time they ask you to be there or the time of surgery.

Just thinking out loud here...LOL

Still waiting for the call from the dr office.

Thanks again for the replies...20 MORE DAYS!! Yay! I CANT WAIT!

Topic: RE: How long did you stay in the hospital

Im just wondering how long you had to stay in the hospital...During my consult, the surgeon said I would probablly be home the same day unless something unexpected happened.

Yesterday I went in for all of my pre-op testing and NUT class. Pretty much everyone said I would be staying over night. I am a self pay patient and the hospitla registration folks asked for another $4,500 bucks! Hello...I had just handed them a $10, 000 check!

The registration person came back to me and said it was only extra if I was staying the night.

I do have a call in to the office to try and get this figured out...Just wondering what was common. I dont have any real health issues other than the weight...slightly highter cholesterol and bp and I have never had any other surgeries.

Thanks for your input. :)

Im wondering if docs would cancel surgery because of suffering a traumatizing emotional situation?
it seems my husband has decided to check out of our marraige...he cheated, begged to come home and go to therapy, then decided that the guilt of what he did was killing him and it broke his heart to look at me so he was going to crawl under a rock and skip therapy...anyway, Im wondering if I should tell my doctor that I am going thru this. Im afraid he will say to wait until I am more stable. My surgery isnt until the 24th and I have all intentions if having my surgery.
Just curious....
Thanks.

Joni,
I wish you and your family best wishes and hope everything turns out ok.

My mom is a survivor! Going on 5 years now. Through gettin her yearly mammo's the docs found it EARLY. She was all clear too...thank GOD. It was found so early that the doctors kept showing me the photos and circled the cancer...it was so tiny I couldnt even see it! She had a couple weeks of radiation, no chemo and now is fine and I pray every day that it stays that way!
