Hey Vicki,
Have you ever tried a spinning class? They are INSANE and will burn TONS of calories. Over the summer when I was really hitting the gym, I had a trainer and he was also a spinning instructor. I started out doing 30 mins elliptical and 30 mins on the treadmill on about a 4 incline. Just a thought...

Stasha,
first let me just tell you...there is any kind of food you could ever want and/or need at Disney. DH and I were dieting when we went back in August...but we were too weak and overcome by temptations. You should not have a problem with choices.

Second...its gonna be flippin HOT! That was our first trip. We didnt get from our rooms to the elevators in the hotel without breaking into a sweat so drink PLENTY of water. I must have drank 3 gallons a day!

This website helped me plan my trip so much...and you can find out lots of good into:
www.allears.net

Good Luck and have a GREAT time!

Thank you all for your advice. I had started a low carb 'diet' two-three weeks ago. That is something that has worked GREAT for me before. I fell off the wagon last weekend after a family issue and am having a hard time getting back on. I figured I would be mostly low carb post band anyway. I will do this. I just gotta pull myself out of this hole Im in right now.

I was taking lexapro, and changed to celexa. I had lost weight taking it in the past, but that was years ago. I just started again in October and gained 20-25lbs in about a month and a half. last time I took it, I lost 40lbs in 4 month low carbing it.

Thats a great question!
Im not banded yet but here goes:

My greatest post op fear is failing. I have failed every other attempt, why would this be any different. Im afraid of spending the money and putting myself thru surgery for nothing.
(sorry, Im just having one of those days)

Where I see myself in 3-5 years: LIke the weight of the world has been lifted off my shoulders. Not afraid to go new places, meet new people or try new things. To feel like people are looking at me cause Im HOT and not 'Frankenmary'. To finally be able to really relax and feel proud of myself. To meet my DH's co-workers...

Im just full of questions here this week...
My Dr didnt put me on any kind of pre-op diet (funny, he said I wasnt that "big" that I needed to do the diet) I beg to differ! LOL
Anyway, after reading all about the whole fatty liver thing...is there a chance that when my dr begins the surgery, I will have too much fat and they wont be able to complete the surgery? I am very apple shaped...more like a barrell on stilts! LOL Ive been trying to lose the weight I actually lost about 4 lbs but Im having some emotional issues right now and Im thinking one of my meds (celexa) may not be helping much.

Just looking for your thoughts. I would like to lose weight before surgery...the more I can lose before, the less I have to lose after.

Topic: RE: self pay?
I am self pay to. My insurance (actually my job's coverage) specfiically denies any type of wls. I am paying around 18,200....
Dr is $4,000/Anesthesia $1,200/ Hospital $10,000/Pre-op Testing and NUT $3,000.

The only thing my insurance is covering is the sleep study I am doing this weekend cause the dr put it in as something else...not related to pre-op.

Good luck. I am hoping and praying that this will be worth every penny. If I can have myslef and my self esteem back...it will be!

Im just wondering....
If during surgery, they are only filling your abdominal cavity with the gas....why would using gas X or aonther anti gas med work? wouldnt the meds be for internal gas? Is the gas somehow absorbed into your system? Is there something else I am missing?

Topic: RE: still trying to make the decision
Hey Val!
I think the biggest thing I am afraid of is not losing. Ive been reading posts where a year out people have only lost 30-40lbs. Now dont get me wrong...Id LOVE to lose 40 lbs right now but Im tired of the "dieting" and Im sure as heck not paying the $18,000 out of pocket to go to WW. I can lose the weight on my own, ive done it Many times before. I just cant keep it off and each time I gain it back a few couple pounds decide to join in. I want to be able to eat 'regular' food and not have to count calories and carbs. If I could just cut my portions in half or to a quarter, I know I would lose the weight. Now Im not saying Im going to eat pizza, ice cream and cheese puffs all day and still want to lose...but just average healthy meals.

I wish you the very best of luck in your decision!

Topic: RE: Sleep Study
Ok, so Im supposed to go have this sleep study done on Saturday...Now, I have some sleeping issues as it is, such as I am a pretty light sleeper and have a hard time sleeping when I am some place unusual. I kinda feel like Im only being forced to have the study done cause Im fat and there is a chance that I could have sleep apnea....in that case, shouldnt everyone who is fat have this test done before any surgery?
well, im done complaining and I'll suck it up and go have it done (cause I have to). My question is if you have had this done, how bad is it? I cant imagine being able to fall asleep all hooked up to machines by a big window where I know people are watching Me! LOL

Topic: RE: not in the plan - 2 years post op
This is exactly my greatest fear. I am self pay and I have already tried every diet out there or else I wouldnt be getting banded. I know this isnt a magical fix all and I will have to do some work myself and make the correct choices....but another "diet"? We all know diets dont work and I am TERRIFIED of getting banded...then having to spend the rest of my life dieting anyway, and failing.

I SO hope you get this worked out. Please let us know how you are doing. Any thoughts that this may be 'doctor error'? could you consider a second opinion?

Ive had a metabolism test done before where you breathe into a tube for 10 minutes with your nose clipped...not sure if that is the same thing. All the dr told me from reading the results was that my metabolism was normal and I shouldnt have any trouble losing weight on my own...yeah...right.

I also just had a breathing test done Monday PFT test, one of my Pre-ops. I get the re****s of that Friday and hopefully they are good enough that I dont have to have the sleep study done.

good luck

Topic: RE: I have a date scheudled! It's next week!!
Hey Meli!
I got my date too! It did happen pretty fast. I just went to the seminar just before Christmas. I already knew my insurance wouldnt cover it...so I pretty much got the date right away. I have to wait until the end of Feb though cause my DH is having knee surgery tomorrow and he wont be able to drive me.
I am SO excited...way more excited than nervous but who knows how I'll be feeling on the way to the hospital. Im sure I wont get ANY sleep plus I have a 1 1/2 - 2 hour drive so I'll have plenty of time to think about it!
I just realized that my surgery date is on Fat Tuesday....how fitting?? LOL
Wish you the best of luck! Let us know how eveyrthing goes!

Topic: RE: Your opinion
In my personal expericene...I have run the gamut of weights between 284 and 210. I havent been under 200 since 6th grade (I was 5'9 in 6th grade!). I know anywhere under 240 I start feeling more comfortable with myself. My personal goal is 190 since I have not been there as an adult and work my way from there even though that is still classified as on the border of overweight/obese.

Good luck to you what ever you decide to aim for...

Topic: RE: Did anyone ever take PhenFen??

Back in the day....I was a PhenFen patient. I did REALLY well and lost 70 lbs in 6-7 months. Thankfully I did not suffer any of the other side affects. T

he way the pills worked for me was to one...take away the majority of my hunger and two...when I did eat, I couldnt eat as much. I can remember WANTING a pi**a SO bad...ordering it and thinking I was gonna tear it up! LOL I would have one slice and be satisfied...couldnt eat anymore and I was happy.

Just wonering if in your experiences this may be similar to the band.

Thanks :)

Topic: RE: Introducing Myself...and a Question
Thank you all so much for your replies. It is comforting to be in touch with other people going thru the same thing.
I think my greatest fear will be giving up my longtime friend and companion...food, large quantities of food LOL. When I quit smoking last year, it kinda felt like losing my little pack of buddies!
I think I am afraid to make the decision between the lap band and the realize band because in some form...if in the long run, say I choose the lap band and there is some kind of recall or some strange thing that starts hurting people, I'll hate myself for not choosing the realize band...then it will all be my fault.
Ohhh, trying to not drive myself CRAZY! LOL

Topic: RE: Introducing Myself...and a Question
Well, I got my date...24 Feb 09!

Just wanted to introduce my self...Ive been reading the boards for a couple weeks now and thought I would jump in and make myself at home. A little background, I finally decided 2008 was going to be the year I would get myself under control and after 3 different diets, a WELL used gym membership and tons of money spent on a Personal Trainer...Im now 30 lbs heavier than last year. I did however quit smoking in Feb 08. So I have finally (after years of research) decided to go with the band. Still not sure if it will be the Lap or Realize. So that is my VERY CONDENSED Cliffs Notes! LOL

Question:
I feel like I have read SO much information and I do feel pretty well prepared. What is something that you found unexpected, that you had not known pre-surgery?
