Hi Ren,
Thanks for the advice about the bullet protein. I have tried those before and could not swallow it without wanting to puke. I will have her check them out maybe she might be able to tolerate them better.
It's nice to see you on here. How is your grandbaby?
Take care and thank you so much for the good luck!
Tara was very happy when she saw that she lost 4 pounds this morning. :)
Happy New Year to you as well.

Hi nfarris,
I too am a patient of Dr. Long. I started with her in September and on my last appt with her in november, she told me about her moving to Sinai. I too was disappointed and worried about the commute but i realized i've come too far to switch doctors and pay more out of pocket fees for consultations etc.
I've checked with the rest of the docs in montgomery county and they all want consultation fees and they want me to follow their program, so that means extra work on my behalf. I am here in rockville and once the ICC opens up the commute will be less than 1 hr for me to head to Sinai.
Dr. Barry Greene at shady grove does not accept commercial insurance, so be careful if you're thinking of going with shady grove, i also know there's another doctor there, but i am unaware of his program. i just gave up searching for better and i'm gonna stick it out with Long. I am just having trouble losing weight but hopefully i can dish 10lbs by the time she is taking appts again in february.
i don't know what else Sinai would want from me being that i'm done with all my appts, i don't mind seeing their nutritionist, but i refuse to pay for another thing after i've paid my $500 to doctor Long.
good luck on your endeavor, and keep me updated on what you plan on doing or what you find. i'm sure you'll make the right decision. in the end for me it was my gut feeling of sticking with Long, and i've gone against my gut feeling and have been wrong most of the time, so this time i feel i'm right. good luck again!

Topic: RE: My PCP tried to talk me out of WLS today
TOTALLLY know how you feel! I've had some bad PCPs in the past too. My current GP is very supportive of my process but I've had some bumps in the road (see my post on my surgeon moving from Silver Spring to Baltimore), and as a therapist I do encourage everyone in this arduous journey to utilize all the help around you that you can get your hands on (blogs, support groups, individual therapy, church/community, etc) because this is about surviving and not just a whim. Other posters are right - sometimes people have perceptions about how "easy" surgery is, or have patients who were not successful and felt let down, or have seen conflicting research .... or are just straight up obese-prejudiced! I can't say which it is not knowing your PCP, but at least he/she isn't standing in your way. (gotta see the positive side of things sometimes). If you need any recommendations, I'm in Montgomery co - but some people are worth the drive!
Take care!! And good luck!

Hi! New to this board....
Anyone in maryland have/had Dr Cynthia Long? I started with her in October 2010 and have all of the hurdles done except for Upper Endoscopy (this thursday!) and have lost 23 lbs in the bariatric diet..... my question is, Dr Long is moving to Sinai and quitting her private practice. Anyone suggest that I continue with her regardless or should I dump her and try someone else? I'm having a bit of trouble with the staff at Sinai, as it's a hospital and not a private practice, they want me to resend all my labs/documentations directly to them instead of my file w/ Dr. Long and they want me to see their nutritionist. Not too happy w/ that obligation, as I've already developed a rapport with the nutritionist at Shady Grove Adventist (in addition to having already paid for nutrition/exercise consults).
I'm very ambivalent about sticking with Dr Long, as Baltimore is pretty far for me, but I also don't want to start over if I don't get credit for the work I"ve already done.... I'd left message for the Shady Grove team to discuss changing to them.... Also haven't been able to find out if the support group is meeting back up there, as I could really use some in-person support on this decision!

Hi Cira!!!
I don't care for the protein shakes at all, or any of the powder protein so I purchased some of the Protein Bullets that have 42 g of protein each. I got mine from GNC and it comes in different flavors, Blue Raspberry, Fruit Punch, Grape and Orange. The only flavor of those that I could even think to try was orange and it's not bad at all. I use a shot glass and fill it up twice getting in half of the bullet at a time. I did this morning and evening to up my protein intake.
If your daughter doesn't like the shakes, maybe this is an option. It was nice because I didn't have to purchase more than I wanted. I think they cost me $2.50 a bullet. Once I start picking up more protein, I will cut it down to a half a bullet a day.
Good luck to you, Gino, and your daughter!!
Happy New Year,
Ren
