Hi, Don't know why I didn't know about the Maine forum!!! Hooray!! This is my first post and I am so glad to be here.  My RNY is scheduled for 3/31/08 with Dr. Loggins in Lewiston, I am just about finished all pre-op stuff, so I am excited.  Thanks for the heads up and the welcome Kathy! I think my questions are about grief-missing food as "friend, comforter, etc, what have others replaced it with?  (If you all say exercise I will prob scream, but hey that's ok!!!)

Hi Kate and welcome! Congrats on the surgery date. I'm still in the contemplation/research mode lol. I have a dear friend on this board that has had the surgery (Leprechaun a.k.a. Anne) and she has done phenomenal! I too have the issues around food re: it is a comfort, a stress relief, a boredom reliever, a source of entertainment (I enjoy going out to eat with friends when the occasion arises) etc. To not address those issues--for me--would make this surgery pointless which is why I am giving it all some serious thought! Plus, I have a few issues re: health. I have Irritable Bowel Syndrome and I also have had potassium deficiencies in the past. Best wishes, Lori

Hi Lori, Food has been my social center for so long, entertaining is what I love to do, there is never a meal I wouldn't share, my kids grew up moving over at the table to make room for someone, and FHB(family hold back) is one of our family speak, so guests get plenty to eat. Food is love, it has shown up in my life whenever I needs it. Now,I am a therapist, and I tell clients, food just lays there, it doesn't care if you enjoy it or not, WE are the ones that make the meaning-friend, stress reliever, love...so WE can change that.  So now it is time for me to put my money where my mouth is, and finally conquer this at last. I have decided to take advantage of a therapist in my after care, to make sure those feelings are addressed and changed as I lose. Thanks for the encouragement.  \ Anne is on my friends list, too!!

Hi and welcome!!! Congrats on having your surgery date - that is exciting and you'll be amazed at how fast the time will go. I won't be the one to tell you to replace food with exercise. Exercise does have it's place...hehe.....I just need to find that place. I'm with you on the emtional eating issues and don't have any answers right now. I'm still newly postop and eating too much isn't very appealing yet - and I say yet because I know that eventually I will need to prepare myself for that day. Candace

Hi Candace, Thanks for the comments, I started on my gazelle yesterday, 20 minutes and today 20 minutes.  Talked to myself the whole time...you know...yo can do this, this is part of the plan, get on the plan, rest of your life...etc Corinne has given me an absolutely ridiculous goal weight, so rather than be discouraged about that, I say tra lah and I will get as close as I can to be a healthy woman again. Congratulations on your surgery, I have so many questions about the aftercare,  how in the world you fit everything in in the hours you are awake and do anything else.  I am sure I will figure it out. I have to lose 22 more pounds in 5 weeks, I hope they won't postpone surgery cause i don't do that...I know it is better to lose before, but , Anyway thanks for the comment! and welcome. kate

Food was my stress relief. I am sure it will get a little more difficult as I am further out from surgery, but right now I am so not even hungry. I have spells where I am but not often. I guess I am so intent on this working for me I am anal about following the rules. I am stubborn as well hmmm well determined hee hee. So as of right now it has not been a problem.

Hello & Welcome!
We have a great family here...I was welcomed with open arms and love the support I get here.
Food addiction transfer is a big issue! I never gave it a thought until about 7 months AFTER I had surgery and things started getting stressful in my life. I've become a MAJOR coffee drinker and OH compulsive. The coffee I have to get under control because I drink way too much. Right now I'm having decaf tea because I finished the pot of coffee and really want some more. My OH addiction is being able to talk, vent, celebrate etc...with people who know what I'm going through. My husband is getting a little cranky about it so I wait till he falls asleep on the couch then get on. Or, like now when I'm home for a holiday...all the housework is done, laundry is going so I don't feel like I'm neglecting anything.
Good luck & don't be bashfull about asking questions...someone has gone through it I can almost guarantee.

Stephanie
