New here
I've been checking around the web for information, support and inspiration. I've been reading the posts and feel it's time to stop lurking. I'm glad I found this site!
My husband and I live in Mid-coast Maine and are in process, going through the program at Eastern Maine Medical Center. We started back in November and finally the last appointment before meeting our doctor has happened April 30. We had to cancel twice due to snow storms and the 1 1/2 hr drive to Bangor. We have sucessfully completed the initial group meeting, support group, psych eval and 1:1 with the dietician.
As long as I can remember I have been overweight, to one degree or another. I've tried almost everything short of wiring my mouth shut. Health concerns and the desire to live a long full life and see grandchildren through adulthood have caused me to be here. Oh, I'm 52 year old, DH is 55.
We have chosen Dr. Toder and have initial appointments with her on June 17, hoping for RNY surgery.

Welcome to Obesity Help and Welcome to the Maine Forum ! This is one place where you can certainly ask questions, vent or whatever as we are all here to help one another through this journey.
Like you, health concerns as well as a strong desire to see my own children grown and with families of their own was a BIG motivator in doing something about my weight. I started the process last February and had RNY surgery in July. Since then, my journey has been amazing and one for which I'm grateful. The other members of the Maine forum have proven to be a wonderful support system and I'm sure they'll be that for you as well.
Again, welcome to both you and your husband. Keep us posted and don't be shy about any comments , questions or concerns you may have along this journey to a new and better life.

Thank you all! I look forward to the comradare from others here. Prior to the dietician visit I was in denial that this was even possible. I was just sure that something would turn up to say "no, you can't do this". Now that I have completed the initial steps prior to meeting my surgeon it is becoming a reality. My mind set is different. I've read that excercise is my second job and for this week me and the excercycle have an appt. every morning. My routine is wake up, feed the dog, let her our, cycle, let her in and eat a healthy breakfast. So far I am up to 13 minutes, 2.3 miles- not bad for the lady who has OA in both knees.
