"severe" sleep apnea, anyone?

I recently went for a sleep study, and they found that I have "severe" sleep apnea.
More recently, I've decided to more seriously think about WLS.
I have an appointment to get my CPAP machine on Wednesday.
I'm wondering once I use my CPAP machine regularly, because my condition is considered "severe", if this will change my eligibility for WLS?
Do/did any of you have a severe level of sleep apnea?
Thanks for the help!

I had a mild case of sleep apnea...it does help your eligibility for surgery, aleast it was the only bonus I had with the cpap machine. I no longer have the cpap machine was test with 3 sleep study and I have no sleep apnea and was released from using the machine..YIPPIE i hated the thing slept less with it,

Please use your machine. I hope it helps your server case of sleepp apnea..

When you use your  machine you still have  severe sleep apnea  it is just being  treated.

So that is a co morbidity  that you will use for   eleigibility for wls.

I  have mild and stil  have to use my machine  and will be  checked again this fall.

It wakes me up  after about  3 hours  of using it and  then i have a hard time getting back to sleep. But i use it every  nite .   Before surgery i could sleep  6 hours with it no problem.

well have a great day

As Patty and Barb have said, sleep apnea is a co-morbidity and should help you qualify for WLS.  My sleep apnea is mild and I had to use the cpap prior to surgery or the surgeon wouldn't do the surgery. I had to bring it to the hospital with me too, for surgery.  I, too, sleep better without it, but I'm trying to get back into the habit of using it!  I think, from what I've been told, those who have more severe sleep apnea actually do better with it than those of us with milder cases.  Hope it works for you!  Good luck and keep us posted!  Ruth
