I am graduating in a month  and I have this great dress that I wore when I graduated a few years back that is WAY to big for me... but I LOVE THIS DRESS ****pt it but not my before pants.. kinda weird)... I could make the "hips" and stuff work but unsure how to shrink the top (size 26... now in size 14/16 tops) so that it fits me and still looks great... its a "jeany" dresss and has thick straps at the top...

Any ideas??

You could take it to a seamstress and see if she could alter it to fit?

HOly Crap, that is a HUGE difference girl.  I know shopping is expensive but I suggest you hit Goodwill, or borrow one from a friend.  I really dont' think there is anything that would make that dress look nice on you, the shoulders would be falling off.  Is this for sentimental reasons?  make a belt with it or sash??  Sorry, just my opinion. by the time you pay a seamstress to fix it you could afford a new dress.

I looked into   having a few things taken in  as i loved them dearly.   they  can go  about  two sizes  down  but that is about all.  I agree you need to  try and find something that fits.    Hope you   have good luck

Just go to Goodwill or RAGAMUFFINS which is on center street in Auburn..
You will fine a nice dress and it will fit better on you than to take something in..

The most you will pay for one will be $10.00

Good luck treat your self you deserve too.

Ummm....mostly likely the only way to alter something that much would be to cut a whole new dress out of the fabric! Do you sew? (not that I can imagine with school and kids that you have much free time)

Yes I sew but ive heard that taking things in that much is hard and looking at the dress i can tell it isnt going to be easy... I guess im going to but something... i had kept it for personal reasons (back in the day when i got it) I was 350 lbs and i still felt great in it, I splerged when i bought it (new, ouch!!) for my college graduation in 05... and as much as i would like to wear it it is nice that it doesn't work for me anymore....   TIME TO GO SHOPING lol
