Marcia,
You failed to say where your friend lives to provide a local center of excellence facility. Since you are in Waterford I will assume Oakland County. Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak is now a COE, and is one of the premier programs in the country with both pre-op and post-op services that include dietitians, physicians, physical therapists, (with workout facilities), psychologists and more. The program has a one time for life fee for most of the services and include such things as cooking lectures to support group programs. These programs have attracted patients from around the country to come to the Beaumont Center for the surgery. I couldn't have been more pleased with my decision to go there. I am going to my work out at the gym there tonight and I am looking forward to a cooking seminar there this week.

That sounds like a great program.   My daughter is having major hip reconstruction surgery down there on December 19.....if their pediatric orthopaedic team is as great as what you've described, I'm sure she'll be in wonderful hands!

St. John's weight loss center in Madison Heights is a COE.  Dr. Hares performs all bariatric procedures.  My surgeon of choice would be Dr. Schneider though.  If your friend is looking for a recommendation I give this program 5 stars.  Everyone is wonderful.  The hospital is small and I had a great experience.
