I had a shower in my room and used it.  I was glad to have small bottles of shampoo and conditioner along as well as my hair dryer.  I read the magazines that I brought but would not have felt like getting deep into a book.  I just wore the hospital gowns but did bring undies.  I was glad to have my cell phone w/ friends'/family's numbers programmed.  If you do bring a cell don't forget the charger if you don't think your battery will hold out for the couple days you are there.  A comfy set of clothes to go home in would be in order, too.  If you are picky about your pillow you might want to bring your own (I didn't).  Oh, and I wear contacts so saline solution and a lense case were necessary and I also brought my glasses and the case for them.

Best of luck on your surgery date!

Ooooh how exciting for you!  I wouldn't bother with the nightgowns - I brought some but just ended up wearing the gowns they gave me because they were constantly checking my drain and giving me heparin shots in the stomach.  I did bring underwear and that was nice to have.

The two things I am so glad I brought were my own pillow and my body pillow.  I also brought a sound machine to drown out the hallway noise.  Plus it confused the nurses

I also brought crystal lite packets that I liked (the orange ones) and was glad I did because they only gave out raspberry ones.

Also don't bother bringing anything to read or puzzles to do - I know I was Wayyyyyy to out of it to even attempt an easy sudoku that my sister brought me!

Good luck to you - I am sure you will do great!

I was only in the hospital overnight and that whole day and next morning I did nothing but SLEEP!  I bought a whole bunch of magazines and was kinda irritated that I wasted my money! LOL   I wore their gowns. They told me to only bring undies and a cell phone, that's it, because they had toothbrushes, etc. and it just gets in the way for an overnight visit.  I even wore home what I wore there, just some loose sweatpants and a tshirt.  I was so out of it, I don't remember anything if I did miss it! lol

Shampoo
conditioner
toothbrush
toothpaste
chapstick
brush
clothes to wear home

This is all I took with me. I also took a pillow with to put on my tummy for the ride home so I could wear a seatbelt and it woudln't bother me.

Seems like the list from the others is pretty good. I too brought a book and a hand held game and never touched the stuff, you're just too tired and out of it to concentrate. If I wasn't sleeping I just stared at the tv and really didn't even care what was on. I did bring my own pillow and I wished I would've brought my own blanket, Fairviews blankets were more like a heavy sheet. The things I was happy I brought were my pillow, definately chapstick and my cell phone and charger otherwise everything was provided, maybe if I would've had some nice non skid slippers ( I hate the hospital kind) that would've been nice. Good Luck to you! I know it's an exciting time and before you know it you will be home recuperating!!!!

This has been the best decision besides marriage and kids that I have ever made!!

The only thing I'll add is a back scratcher.  I was SOOOO glad I had mine!  (I have an itchy back - plus it was good for reaching things on the bedside table (but I had some extra work done, you might not need that particular type of help...).

GOOD LUCK TO YOU!!!
