7 weeks post op and still slow.
On Wednesday I will be 7 weeks post op RNY. I stepped on the scale today and I am 259lbs. I'm not exactly sure what weight I was on surgery day, the Dr's didn't have that on my chart when I went in for my post op visits for some reason, but I think I was around 284....1 week post op I was 277, at my 4 week post op I was 268...so if Wednesday is my 7 week post op and I'm 259 that means I've only lost 25lbs in SEVEN weeks! It's really really really frustrating.
I am still following the 'plan', drinking as much as I should, walking as much as I should and eating the right things, so why isn't the weight coming off a little faster? My sister lost 100lbs in 6 months and even though I can rationalize that we are all different, we're sisters so we have some of the same biology.
Is anyone else here this slow?
The weight has not 'dropped' off like so many told me it would. I struggle to lose 1-2 lbs in as many weeks?
When is the last time you lost 25 pounds in seven weeks??
That is a lot...really. Please don't compare yourself to other people. It will drive you nuts. Just hang in there...follow the rules...it will be just fine.
Maybe you need to add more protein or water....change up your eating a little sometimes that will give you a jump start. Are you geting in enough calories??? If not that can be a problem too.How about exercise....walk a little more if you can.
These are just my opinions....I am not trying to be bossy here. Good luck....you can do it!!!
Hugs....connie d
Are you keeping your calories low?
Keeping carbs at a minimum? (no extra chips, crackers, bread, snacks, candy, etc)
Staying within the fat/sugar guidelines?
What about portions? still keeping the 1/4 cup out so you can measure portions? Should not be at 1/2 cup until 6 mons... (with my program anyway)
Was your sister the same weight at her surgery as you are? Keep in mind the heavier you are at surgery the faster the weight seems to go off.
thanks...and Connie, you are not bossy, you have AWESOME advice!
I'm eating about 1/4-1/3 cup per meal.
My carbs are higher because I cannot consume as much meat protein as most do, so I switch it up with beans which are higher in carbs.
I'm drinking about 64oz water/5 cal drinks per day
I'm walking roughly 25-30 mins per day, would do more but get tired pretty easily.
I am probably not getting 60 grams of protein a day, probably closer to 40.
I have eaten a protein bar every othr day, 20g protein, 270 calories(quite high for one meal) and 30 carbs. I don't eat one every day, but I'm trying to do it now and then for the extra protein...but the carbs are high and that bothers me a bit.
Perhaps I should cut out the protein bar and replace it with something else?
You need to up your protein... thats my suggestion. If you are getting 40 in now without a shake, add a shake to get 65g in...
I avg 80-90 a day with protein and I've been above avg in losing.. I think thats where you're lacking.
You could always seek out another dietitian if you don't feel yours is giving you the feedback you need. I know mine all along has pushed the protein button with me. That's just my suggestion.
You may want to post on the main RNY board too.. ALOT of good advice as far as diet goes and why you may be losing slow. Luckily I've been above avg in weightloss thus far.. but I get a ton of protein in...

I'm down 120 pounds - thanks to RNY! Working on the next 25. Then I'll tackle more...
You should stick with foods that are less than 10g net carbs where you're at.
Please spay and neuter your pets!

I'm wondering when the last time you lost 25 pounds in 7 weeks was? giggle... NEVER for me..
I take each pound as the gift that it is - My losses might be smaller and few and far between, but things are toning as I go.. which is a blessing.
I've noticed that since I've upped my protein to 100g per day this past week, I dumped 9 pounds *snap* just like that. I'm going to keep trying to track more protein. Water's not a problem for me.
Try to not fret so much about the #'s.. it will come... and even if it does slowly, you will get there..
Best wishes..
