Topic: Basal Metabolic Rate for maintenance
Have any of you done this calculation?  This is to calculate how many calories you need to eat daily to maintain your body weight at your level of activity.  There are online calculators that can do this for you, but I actually went to the underlying formula and calculated it for myself.

It seems crazy--it says I should be eating 1850 calories per day to maintain my current body weight at my current level of activity.   Of course, my perception has been colored by a whole year of eating very small amounts of food, but I can't even fathom how I could eat that much.  Are there any studies that analyze this formula with relation to WLS patients?  Since our innards have been rearranged, I wonder how that might change the formula.  Especially considering we were probably very efficient processors of food to start with.

Just wondering...

Your new job sounds like a great fitness tool, LOL.  Good for you that you are tracking other health indicators, like measurements.  I am sure you are building a lot of muscle.    The loss will continue to happen--you are actually losing fat and gaining muscle if your weight is staying the same.

Awesome Renae!!

I haven't lost an ounce since I started my new job but i've lost 1 1/2 inches in the chest and 2 inches in my waist and 2 inches in my hips so i'm pretty stoked about that.  I believe I have probably lost fat but have been gaining muscle.  I've managed to not gain any weight which is fine by me.  I'm ready to drop a few lbs again though.  ;)

Thanks so much Marsha!  And thanks for your recipes you have shared.  My kids and I love that crock pot chicken recipe with the cream of chicken and cream cheese.  YUM!!

Thanks Renae!  I am doing well.  Even though I don't get on OH much now, you still continually inspire me.  Keep it up!

Topic: RE: DS'ers near Duluth?
I too was looking for a specific support group for sleeve gastrectomies but didn't find one in the twin cities area.   So I decided to go to a coffee group that meets every Saturday morning rotating between 2 sites.  This has been most beneficial to me, and I did find some fellow 'sleevers' there.   The posting was ' support coffee group south of the river-twin cities '    Perhaps you could set on up there to meet and announce it on the forum.    We alternate between a Panera and a Caribou shops.   Just set a time and place and see what happens.   We meet everyweek, sometimes there are a bunch and sometimes just a few.  Couldn't hurt to try, we've all had WLS (weight loss surgery) of some kind or another.

I'm glad the move went okay!

I agree, the coffee group is the greatest!  Good luck on starting one, I'm sure there is a need for it.

We'll miss you here....
