Which I do not like but I do not have much of a choice. I am getting the DS/BPD which I know is controversial in some circles but with a BMI of 71 and 252lbs to lose I think that it offers me my best chance at getting to my goal. I sent all the paperwork today on-line and am going to Chicago on the 12th of Feb for an informational meeting. It is required before seeing the actual surgeon. I do not drive much so DH has to go with me and drive 550 miles or so...YIKES....but it was the closest that takes Medicare. So that's where I am right now-Hoping and praying that all goes well for me and all of you too!! Amy

Hi ya Amy, Im not exactly sure what the DS/BPD surgery is. I had the Gastric RNY surgery 2 months ago, my BMI was 77 when I started this whole process back in july, right now my BMI is about 57, I've lost 130 lbs now 49 lbs of that since surgery so I know the RNY works even with us larger peeps. I've not checked into what the DS/BPD consists of tho. I had my surgery done with Dr. Hornbostel in Sedalia, MO and he accepts Medicare cuz Im on it. Anyway just thought I'd threw that at there. Good Luck in your journey, we'll keep your in our prayers. Andrew

Hey Girl, Just sent you a note then saw you posted!!! I am 62.4 BMI and it seems like it is climbing!!!!! I need to lose at least 200#. There are others your size or bigger in our support group that have had lap RNY and are losing at a wonderful rate of speed without complications. But like I said before we support you and your decisions but we also welcome others to join us in our support groups on line and off. Take care. You will be in my prayers. Julia

Amy, I'm sure you've done your research but I think that is a very drastic surgery. However, I support whatever you choose, we each have to do what seems right to us. We'll be praying for good weather for you on 2/12, that's a long drive. We went up there for vacation in September and the road up from St. Louis to Chicago is BORING!!! Take tunes you like. Hugs and love, Lana
