Anyone had problems with your liver after surgery?

I had my surgery in April 07 and 2wks postop I started urinating brown so I went to my primary dr to find that I had extremely high liver enzyme levels and they put me back in the hospital for more tests.  They could find the reason but my liver was dumping bile into my system rather than into my intestine.  After about 6 months I was feeling more normal and it seemed to have healed itself.  I went yesterday for pre-op blood work to start some plastic surgery and they called this morning that my liver enzymes where climbing up again.  I called my WLS surgeon and he is setting up an appt with a liver specialist.
I have never had any liver problems before the surgery.
Anyone else having problems?

Sharlene

Hi Sharlene It's not unusual to have some elevated liver levels when you're in that repaid weight loss phase, as the liver has to flush everything out.  But in your case, obviously it was a little different - it's good to get it checked.  This may have nothing to do with WLS, or possibly losing the weight brought out a problem that could have been lurking or masked by the weight.  Either way, the specialist should be able to give you some answers.  I'll be praying.  Please keep us posted.

Hi Tracy, I was going to email you today.  I am scared to death.  I had one response that a lady has already been to the specialist and had her biopsy.  She now has Billory Cirrosis and, like me, she has never drank.  Her dr said that when he gets the official results back that he will decide if she will need a liver transplant.  Holy Cow, Tracy.  Help me through this. Thanks for being there.

Hugs,
Sharlene

Im calling my WLS surgeon monday...I had my surgery with Dr.Richardson on February 5. an when i came home i was peeing like a brownish color with a real strong odor.  I noticed a couple of days ago that it finally turned back to the yellow color... Now Im concerned. thanks for asking that I actually thought it couldve been a UTI.

I thought mine was uti also but that taught me to not self diagnose.  Dr. Richardson is great and he will figure out what the problem is, for both of us. Keep me posted on you outcome.

The internet is a wonderful thing; until you start self-diagnosing and get yourself all worked up.  Get into the specialist.  Let them run tests and find out for sure what's going on.  Once you have a confirmed diagnosis, then you can research that diagnosis.   I'm praying and here if you need to talk or anything.  You have my number.  {{{hugs}}}
