The Cost of Little Protein!

I knew it would happen & there's no one to blame but myself.  During my 2 wk pre-op diet I felt so full & only drank 3 maybe 4 shakes a day. (was supposed to drink 5)  Then first week post op, I couldn't stomach the Isopure or Nectar, then I was having trouble with milk, then I had my ulcer.  So my protein intake has sucked to say the least.  I just washed my hair & noticed that it looked like there was an awfull lot going into the tub.  When I finished, there was a HUGE wad of hair in the drain.  HUGE!!!  So now I am paying for my lack of protein.  I figured it would happen, but I thaught I had another month or so. Looks like I may be knitting sock caps this fall.            ~Angy

You girls are too cute....even if you had got in enough protien you probably would still loose alot of hair. The research I have seen thinks it is because your body is thinking it is malnurished (and it is in someways) so it starts taking the nurishment it is getting and putting it toward the necessities and forgetting about the non-essentials (like hair) Give yourself a little time and you will start to get it back when you can begin to eat a little healthier and take in a few more calories (including the protien)  Love to all of you who are getting a little thin on top....

I'm getting in my protein but I'm still loosing hair.  My hair was sooo thin to start with.  So, I went to LA Wigs in Springfield and got one.  It was 149. and the best money I've ever spent!  It's just like putting on a baseball cap and your' out the door looking good!  It takes so long to try and fix your hair when it's so thin...this is sooo much simpler and talk about cutting down on the 'getting ready' time...it's a whiz!  You can get cheaper wigs, I just bought one about the color of my hair and in a med/short length.  I have it on in my OH picture- it's nothing fussy or fancy-  I have noticed that my hair has new growth coming in, so yes, it does come back, but I'm not giving up my wig, it's my new best friend!

I didn't notice the hair loss until 3 mo's out, but it seems to have slowed down some ....THANK GOODNESS!! I have upped my vitamins, I take biotin 2x a day, prenatal 2x aday, calcium 2 x a day, b-12 sublingual 2 x a day,  a b complex 2 x a day, and a chewable vitamin c for good measure, and after all that I was STILL low on iron..go figure, I would suggest to all the losing hair people to go get your hair cut as short as you can stand it, mine is about shoulder length now and it made it seem so much thicker.  like you have already noticed GET YOUR PROTEIN !!  but vitamins are important too.  good luck! susan

I started losing hair about 4 months out and I'm now 8 months out and still losing my hair.  I have long hair and it was already thin and it's just getting thinner.  I know I lack nurishment and vitamins I just hope it stops soon or I will need a hat....ha, ha...

I don't look good in short hair well now when I had a fat face not sure how I would look now that I lost 154 lbs.  Not sure I want to chance it yet, I'm scared I won't like it.  If only they could put it back on if I didn't like it.

I try not to wash my hair as much as I used to maybe 1-2 x a week because it seems to come out more when I wa**** and comb it alot.  I have been using this shampoo called Nixon supposed to help your hair look thickier etc... not sure if it is really helping or not cause I have been using it since the hair loss started.

I need to do the biotin but if I don't cru**** then I throw up and I hate to crush pills I shouldn't have to at 8 months out but I have to also do chewable Flintstone vitamins cause others make me sick.  Why can't we just get a monthly shot for all our vitamins like the b12 wouldn't that be nice.

The biotin I take is in a capsule form (you know a powder), maybe you could try that and open the capsule and sprinkle it on something. you should go to a store and try on shorter wigs to see how it would look, shorter hair doesn't pull out as easy as long, mine slowed down on falling out immedietly after the cut. ps you will be surprised how much better shorter hair looks on a slimmer fase, that was my worry too, now that I don't have a triple chin maybe 1.5 , it looks so much better, and a younger style too!  good luck, susan

Amen Sister!!! about the shots.  Heck, I'd do a shot everyday if I didn't have to take all of these pills.  lol

I feel like an old timer but I am only 18 months out.  I had the hair loss thing, bad and the only thing that helped was time.  And, the great thing was that when it started coming back in, it is thicker and I have some curl.  WOW it is great.  I have always had poker straight hair so the little flip at the bottom back is really cute.  Good luck, remember it will get better soon.

Hugs,
Sharlene
